Kelly Hoey
Speaker & Strategist

Kelly Hoey is a strategist, speaker, startup advisor and board member. Kelly is known for her leadership in building valuable professional networks, understanding the dynamics of engaged communities and the “how” of raising visibility.

In 2011, Kelly co-founded Women Innovate Mobile, LLC (WIM). Kelly continues to invest in as well as advise emerging technology companies, actively mentors startups through selected accelerator programs and is a member of the board of directors of emerging tech startup, Glimpse.

Russ Combs
Managing Director

Russell is experienced in many aspects of business incubation, including incubator management, entrepreneurship training, development of technology-based facilities and training programs, management of governmental programs supporting economic development, as well as business consulting in the private sector. He formerly served as Executive Director of the Erie Technology Incubator at Gannon University Erie, PA. Previously he directed a regional multi-facilities business incubation project in Northern Virginia. He also served as President of the Virginia Business Incubators Association, a statewide organization. His administrative experience has included direction of the Tech Ventures division for a community development non-profit corporation, which included management of a youth entrepreneurial development program, a technology-based business incubator, and four community technology centers. Russell has also directed the administration and marketing of an Economic Development Zone initiative in rural New York that was recognized globally for its successes as an “incubator-without-walls.”


Stacy Sacco

Stacy Sacco teaches entrepreneurial studies at the UNM Anderson School of Management, serves as the Director of the UNM Small Business Institute, teaches sales and marketing workshops for the Anderson Executive and Professional Education Center.  In addition, as the president of Sacco Connections LLC, Stacy serves as a management and marketing consultant, professional speaker and local columnist. 
 
Stacy previously held senior marketing management positions at several Fortune 500 corporations and locally, the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, Kirtland Federal Credit Union and WESST.   Stacy has been recognized by New Mexico Business Weekly as a Power Broker for his service to the community including publishing New Mexico Networking Links an online business information portal, hosting the annual MARCOM Mixer, and serving on several boards including the New Mexico American Marketing Association and TEDxABQ.  Albuquerque the Magazine has recognized Stacy as the best networker in New Mexico and more recently, the Best Local to Have Lunch With.  Stacy also was named the Outstanding Faculty of the Year at Webster University, was nominated for the UNM Adjunct Faculty of the Yearaward every year since 2008, and was recognized by the UNM Anderson Foundation for his Service to the Community in 2006. 
 
Stacy earned an MBA from Pepperdine University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Arizona, and toured two years with the global leadership program Up With People.



John Chavez
President, New Mexico Angels

John J. Chavez, is the President of the New Mexico Angels. Since Mr. Chavez has become President, the New Mexico Angels have seen an increase of over 100% in investment in new companies. Additionally, the New Mexico Angels are leading investment deals instead of following the VC's into the deals. Mr. Chavez has created the New Mexico Angels technology showcase forums which allows the New Mexico Angels technology partners, LANL, Sandia and UNM, to showcase technology available for licensing to New Mexico Angel members and guests. Mr. Chavez has been an active angel investor since 2003, investing in thirteen start-up companies and as the sixth employee of two start-up companies that are both still active and growing.

Mr. Chavez is the also the President of Tafoya and Brainerd Partners LLC, a nationwide business development consulting firm. . Prior to creating Tafoya and Brainerd Partners LLC, Mr. Chavez was appointed by New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson as the Cabinet Secretary of the Taxation and Revenue Department. Mr. Chavez served as Cabinet Secretary for six years and as the President of the Federation of Taxation Administrators for one year.

A native of New Mexico, Mr. Chavez is a graduate of New Mexico State University where he received a BBA in Finance, a BA in Economics and an MBA. Mr. Chavez serves on the Boards of The UNM Anderson School of Management Foundation and The All Faiths Receiving Home Foundation.

Marlena Shirley
Marketing Director

Marlena is the Marketing Director for Real Time Solutions, a local software and website development company. As Marketing Director, she manages internet marketing campaigns for customers and for Real Time Solutions. Previous, she was a Project Manager and managed over 300 website projects while concurrently managing the development of a 17 module content management system. Before joining Real Time Solutions, she worked for multiple startups including Boomdizzle.com and tunedig.com – both social networking websites for musicians. Marlena’s passion for the startup environment began in college where she worked with a team of students to research the emergence of social media platforms such as twitter, Myspace and Facebook for one of the largest publishing companies in the world, Gannett Company.   The research guided the company on expanding the digital side of USA TODAY and other large website properties and also led to her being chosen as a top 32 graduate in the country to participate in their Talent Development Program.


Deborah Burns

Deborah Burns is the CEO of investUS llc. An Albuquerque startup, investUS brings private investment funding for NM job creation and investUS is a New Mexico EB-5 regional center.  Prior to investUS, Deborah was an institutional investor in NYC, financial officer of a start-up company that became the largest publicly-traded company in NM, and Chief Lending Officer for a community bank.


Matthew Ayoub
Entrepreneur


Matthew Ayoub is an entrepreneur, real estate investor and UI/UX designer. He is the founder of Media Trove LLC, a technology startup building Kanoodl.co, a new background music service for businesses. Media Trove is one of the first eleven companies to be accepted into the ABQid accelerator. When he is not at Media Trove, Matthew manages his real estate investment company, Alpha Arietis LLC, which provides office and retail space to local small businesses and startups. Matthew has participated Startup Weekend Santa Fe and Startup Weekend Albuquerque events, leading and participating on finalist teams. Matthew has also coached at Startup Weekend Albuquerque and Startup Teen events.

Jared Tarbell
Etsy Co-Founder

Jared Tarbell is one part Magical Mystery Tour (Lennon/McCartney), one part Brandenburg Concerto (J.S. Bach), and one part Somnium (Robert Rich). Born in 1973 to William and Suzon Davis Tarbell in the high altitude desert city of Albuquerque, New Mexico, he was first introduced to personal computers in 1987. Jared's interest in computation has grown in direct relation to the processing power of these machines. Jared holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from New Mexico State University. In July 2005, Jared co-founded Etsy, an online marketplace to buy and sell handmade goods. When not engaged in programming, Jared nearly always tries to find himself outside, exploring the mysterious wilderness areas of New Mexico.
