Speakers


Jeff Wuslich

Jeff Wuslich is a Co-founder of Cardinal Spirits, a craft distillery in Bloomington. He, along with his partners,  raised $850K from investors across the Midwest using Localstake. This is Jeff’s fourth entrepreneurial venture. Prior to Cardinal Spirits, Jeff was a partner at Might and Main, LLC where he raised over $5 million for clients.   Jeff also co-hosts Verge Bloomington, a monthly meetup where start-ups pitch their ideas.   Specialties: fundraising, operations, regulations, problem-solving, and pitching.

Travis Brown

As the Director of Strategic Initiatives & Entrepreneurship, Travis works closely with the dean to develop and manage partnerships and programs deemed important to bringing the strategic vision set for the SoIC to fruition. In addition, to teaching Design Strategy, Technology Entrepreneurship, and Technology Innovation, he directs the entrepreneurship programs for the school. Prior to returning to Indiana University to pursue his doctoral degree, Travis spent his career in business, focusing on performance management, entrepreneurship, corporate innovation, business analytics, and interaction design in corporate and small business settings.


Lynn Coyne
President of BEDC

Lynn Coyne is president  of the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) which is the lead economic development organization for Bloomington and Monroe County.  Prior to joining the BEDC, Mr. Coyne served as Assistant Vice President for Real Estate and Associate Counsel for Indiana University.  Before joining Indiana University, he practiced law in Bloomington, Indiana, primarily in business and land use planning.  He has been active in economic development throughout his career, including at Indiana University.  He has been an adjunct instructor at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business and School of Public and Environmental Affairs.  He has received the Lifetime Achievement award from the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana University President’s Distinguished Service Medal, and the Indiana University Maurer School of Law Distinguished Service Award.  Throughout his career,  Mr. Coyne has been active in many professional and community service organizations.  He currently is Vice Chair of the Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital Board of Directors.

Lynn Coyne

Steve Bryant
Executive Director - Cook Center for Entrepreneurship

Steve Bryant serves as the Executive Director of the Gayle and Bill Cook Center for Entrepreneurship at Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington where he is developing and implementing a strategic plan for an entrepreneurial studies program to assist students and individuals looking to start entrepreneurial ventures. Steve has held a wide array of positions within the government, not-for-profit, life sciences industry and higher education, but most recently as Business Development & Marketing Manager for BioConvergence, a small, growing life sciences company in Bloomington, Indiana. 


Danise Alano-Martin
Economic & Sustainable Development Director

Danise Alano-Martin joined the City of Bloomington in 2005 and was appointed Director of the Department of Economic & Sustainable Development in 2008. In this post, she oversees the integration of the City’s economic and business development initiatives with environmental stewardship, social equity concerns, and arts and cultural destination development. Prior to her role at the City, she was a senior officer and marketing director for an Indiana community bank in Bloomington. She is past president and a current board member of Downtown Bloomington Inc., and serves on several boards which support Bloomington’s small businesses, drive technology and life sciences sector growth, and facilitate industrial and entrepreneurial development. Danise is a certified Economic Development Finance Professional through the National Development Council, an Indiana University graduate and an advisory board member of the IU Hutton Honors College Alumni Association.


Norm Hedges
Director of the Intellectual Property Clinic at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law

Norman J. Hedges is Clinical Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Intellectual Property Clinic at Indiana University Maurer School of Law. Professor Hedges joined the law school in January 2015. Professor Hedges came to Bloomington with over 16 years of experience in patent practice in Indianapolis, including 10 years in the Indianapolis office of Faegre Baker Daniels, where he was named partner in 2007. At Faegre Baker Daniels, Hedges focused his intellectual property practice on the mechanical and electro-mechanical arts, including health and life sciences. In addition, he has substantial experience in the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, post-issuance challenges and defense, consultation with clients to avoid patent infringement, preparation of patent invalidity and non-infringement opinions, and intellectual property due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.


Terri Brown

Terri Brown is a Business Advisor for the South Central ISBDC in Bloomington.  She has over 14 years’ experience working with the ISBDC in various capacities.  Terri has extensive knowledge of the accounting, human resources, and payroll functions and has worked in the lending, micro-loan, manufacturing, and service industries. In the past, she has started her own business and understands the challenges small business owners face every day.  Terri wrote and designed The Business Guide publication that is used today throughout the region, and has certification in Quickbooks.

Chris Borland

Chris is seasoned entrepreneur and an IU grad that came for school and made Bloomington his home, 30 years ago. He has over 2 decades of experience leading R&D teams in innovative projects at IU and starting four tech startups. Chris has lead projects researching radical-pair based sensor systems in animals, spearheading the development of several augmented reality location based training systems, multiple educational gaming applications, mobile and web applications for entertainment and social engagement and mobile advertising to drive foot traffic to merchant's physical locations. In 2013, he created his most recent startup FeetHere LLC, a foot traffic marketplace for mobile marketing to drive mobile users to merchants.  


Cedric Savarese

Cedric Savarese is the founder and CEO of Veer West / FormAssembly.com. A French expat in the United States since 2002, he worked at DePauw University before moving to Bloomington, Indiana and starting his own software company. FormAssembly has since grown into a leading solution in its space, used by thousands of companies worldwide to collect data and power business processes. He holds a post-graduate degree (D.E.A) in Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence from the University Pierre & Marie Curie, Paris VI, France.


David Ferguson

A Bloomington native, David graduated from IU Law after obtaining his undergraduate degree from the IU Business school.  He has participated in the IU BEST competition (Building Entrepreneurs in Software and Technology,www.best.indiana.edu) since its inception.  As an investor, David is a part-owner of every company funded by the competition.  David currently serves on the board of Menguin (www.menguin.com) an on-line tuxedo rental company, a 2013 winner of the BEST competition.  He has been actively involved in the redevelopment of Bloomington’s downtown, renovating several historic buildings and redeveloping a City parking garage into the Hilton Garden Inn, The Mercury Apartments, retail space and a new parking garage.  David founded Olympus Properties, a real estate management company managing properties with over $4 million in annual rents.  Olympus was named Property Management Company of the Year for 2010 by the Indiana Apartment Association.  David practices law in Bloomington and is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell.  He has been a trustee of the Monroe County Public Library for fifteen years.
