What is Startup Weekend?

Have you ever seen a new product, app, or business and thought to yourself, "that was my idea a few years ago"?  If you have, that means you did not have a process for taking that idea from concept to creation.

Startup Weekend is your chance to learn how to take any idea from concept to creation within a matter of days!  Whether you are looking to...

Do I need to come with an idea?

If you have an idea for a startup, then great!  We hope you pitch for the weekend.  If you don't have an idea, that's quite all right!  Come and spend the weekend, listen to the ideas being pitched, and see if something strikes your interest!  The weekend is all about learning about the startup ideation process and from your peers.  If you have more questions, check out the Startup Weekend First Timers FAQ!

Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late as the venue will allow

Chuck Goldstone

Author, mentor, entrepreneur, strategist, and creative catalyst, Chuck Goldstone has helped domestic and global organizations leverage communication as a business asset and has inspired individuals to be more visionary, creative, persuasive, and confident. He is founder/CEO of Chuck Goldstone Strategies and Stories and is a nationally respected authority on business presentations, story, the creative process, and communications strategy. Chuck has coached, mentored, and trained hundreds upon hundreds of startups and his ground-breaking communications model and workshops have helped emerging companies redefine their business strategies move reach investors and markets to action. As a radio commentator, he was heard for a more than a decade on over 400 public radio stations across the country.

Now, the company currently operates 60 locations in the United States, Canada and Europe and expects to reach 70 locations by 2018.

Jerome Selva
Vice President, XaaS Acceleration Watson & Cloud Platform

Jérôme Selva is Vice President - XaaS at IBM Watson & Cloud Platform.  He brings extensive experience in leadership, business management, transformation, integration, finance and talent development.  His mode of engagement, focused on outcomes and cohesive teaming, results from his work in a wide array of international, headquarter, transversal positions covering consulting, finance, strategy, acquisitions, operations, manufacturing, product life cycle, development IT, design thinking and agile methodologies.   Since November 2016, Jérôme leads the XaaS growth initiatives for IBM Watson & Cloud Platform, with the primary focus to support a high double digit MRR growth, through radically redesigning the business and operations models via a fully instrumented end-to-end discovery-to-advocacy platform. 
He fulfills his passion to invest in others to optimize business results, by promoting collaboration and expertise sharing. Active in the Boston startup community for the past ten years, Jay has been a Startup Weekend participant, winner, and coach; a Startup Institute instructor; and organizer of the BarCamp Boston tech conference. Currently Jay runs Boston Startups Guide, a community resource site dedicated to bringing more attention to Boston startups and resources for them.
