Startup Weekend Health means we will be focusing the ideas we select on solving problems in the health/life sciences industry  Over the last 10 years we have seen major changes in health-- everything from programmable limbs through cognitive health advising system to 3D-printed skin. Ron Chabot
CEO at Galaxy AI Innovations Inc.

Ron has been involved in the fields of bio and neuroscience for over 25 years in several capacities ranging from surgical instruments sales to medical software technology and support. Ron’s ascending career was derailed by substance addiction, from which it took the better of a decade for him to attain sobriety and regain control of his life. Despite the devastation, his addiction wreaked, and several rounds of rehab, Ron’s conviction after receiving his third DUI turned out to be a life – rather than a jail sentence. This allowed Ron to be forced to face reality, it was then that Ron became committed to helping others triumph over their battle with addiction. He founded Galaxy AI to significantly reduce addiction and assist in facilitation end the Opioid epidemic that currently has a growing death grip worldwide.

Nancy Hanrahan
Professor and Dean of the School of Nursing and Associate Dean of the Bouvé College of Health Sciences

Dr. Nancy Hanrahan assumed the position of Professor and Dean of the School of Nursing and Associate Dean of the Bouvé College of Health Sciences effective July 2015. She is a national leader in psychiatric mental health nursing and known for her research documenting the psychiatric nurse workforce. She is an expert in system-level mental health services research. Additionally, Dr. Hanrahan leads the innovation and technology development program at Northeastern University School of Nursing. This program promotes nurses to be innovators and entrepreneurs who improve the healthcare experience of patients and families. She’s received national and international awards for development of innovative interventions. Dr. Hanrahan received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, and her masters and doctoral degrees from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA. She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Nursing.

Lisa Najavits
Professor of Psychiatry, Boston University School of Medicine and Clinical Psychologist at the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System

Lisa M. Najavits, PhD is professor of psychiatry, Boston University School of Medicine; and adjunct professor, University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is a research psychologist at Veterans Affairs (VA) Boston Healthcare System and the Bedford VA; and director of Treatment Innovations. She was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School from 1990-2015. Her major clinical and research interests are substance abuse, trauma, co-morbidity, behavioral addictions, veterans' mental health, community-based care, development of new psychotherapies, and outcome research.  She is author of over 180 professional publications, as well as the books Seeking Safety: A Treatment Manual for PTSD and Substance Abuse;  A Woman's Addiction Workbook; and the upcoming Creating Change: A Past-Focused Treatment Manual for Trauma and Addiction. She has served as president of the Society of Addiction Psychology of the American Psychological Association; and is on various  advisory boards including the Journal of Traumatic Stress; the Journal of Gambling Studies; the Journal of Dual Diagnosis, and Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy. She has received various awards, including the 1997 Young Professional Award of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies; the 1998 Early Career Contribution Award of the Society for Psychotherapy Research; the 2004 Emerging Leadership Award of the American Psychological Association Committee on Women; and the 2009 Betty Ford Award of the Addiction Medical Education and Research Association.

Catherine O’Connor
Clinical Instructor at Northeastern's School of Nursing

Catherine is a faculty member at the Bouve College School of Nursing at Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts. Her academic and clinical teaching responsibilities include community and public health nursing, mental health, bioethics and the supervision of graduate research practicum students. Her research activities focus on the health care needs of vulnerable populations and her work has been published in academic journals and presented nationally and internationally. Catherine has 40 years of clinical nursing experience, 30 of which have been solely dedicated to the care and prevention needs of HIV positive individuals and those members of the community at-risk for HIV/AIDS. Catherine is also the Coordinator of the Bouve Health and Wellness Van, an innovative, mobile health program for underserved populations experiencing mental illness, substance use disorder, homelessness and infectious disease; specifically HIV/AIDS, STIs and viral hepatitis. Catherine specializes in the provision of creative and innovative models of HIV prevention and education, counseling and testing, linkage/adherence and retention in clinical care, harm reduction and supportive services for vulnerable community members. Catherine is the recipient of local and national awards recognizing her commitment to community members experiencing health disparities.


Charlie Schick
Founder and CEO of 777labs

Charlie Schick, PhD, is passionate about the intersection of healthcare, mobile, and data; particularly how we can improve the way healthcare organizations engage with customers, patients, and families through digital solutions.Charlie founded and leads Innovative Solutions in Addiction and Mental Illness, ISAMI, a think tank of Greater Boston Area innovators, primarily focused on driving and promoting innovations addressing opioid use.Charlie also founded and leads 777labs, a digital innovation and strategy consultancy helping clients grow their business and engage with their customers through digital solutions. He has over 25 years experience crafting and applying digital strategies to drive success in marketing, sales, solution design and development, and research. And he has been influential leading major brands, such as IBM, Nokia, and Boston Children’s Hospital, with innovative ways of engaging with customers through digital solutions.During his career he has designed and launched web and mobile products; provided analytics, social media, and content strategy consulting; written numerous articles for online and print publications; published several biomedical research papers in leading journals; and co-authored a book on advanced phone systems. Judi Cullinane
Executive Director of the Center of Excellence, for Nursing Research, Innovation, Professional Development and Quality at Tufts Medical Center and the Floating Hospital for Children

Judi Cullinane is the Executive Director of the Center of Excellence, for Nursing Research, Innovation, Professional Development and Quality at Tufts Medical Center and the Floating Hospital for Children. Judi is also an Associate Professor of Nursing Practice at Simmons College School of Nursing and Health Sciences within the department of Nursing and the Dotson Bridge and Mentoring Program; a program devoted to the enhancement of the educational experience of minority students enrolled in nursing. She also holds a faculty appointment as an Adjunct Associate Professor for Tufts University, School of Medicine assisting with the development of interprofessional education and collaboration. She is a graduate of Graceland University in Independence, MO and is currently a PhD candidate at Simmons College School of Nursing and Health Sciences. In 2014, Judith completed the patient safety executive officer training at the Institute of Healthcare Improvement and in 2015 was nominated for the Compass Award by Massachusetts Hospital Association for the successful team project of an inpatient pediatric complex care team. Most recently, she was acknowledged by the International Nurses Association as a nurse leader. She is a current board member the Organization of Nurse Leaders and also a nurse leader on the Massachusetts Action Coalition Campaign for the Future of Nursing and assisting within the initiatives for implementing the Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies, the Academic Practice Integration in Nursing Initiatives and the Diversity Advisory Council. She has served as president for Sigma Theta Tau, Theta at Large Chapter (007) from 2011-2013 and is also the past- president of the Massachusetts“Boston” Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses.


Haley Waud
Founder of Youreka Hub

Haley is a Northeastern alum who received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the Bouvé College of Health Sciences in 2013. On entering the real world, she realized that she had a passion for solving everyday problems by inventing and developing products and solutions. This rapidly grew from a hobby to a budding business and in January 2018 she founded Youreka Hub LLC., a product licensing, developing and coaching company. Youreka Hub’s mission is to constantly bring innovative products to market and in tandem to guide aspiring inventors through the licensing process. Haley currently has two full patents and three more in the pipeline; she signed her first licensing deal in December 2017. Ms. Waud currently resides between Vancouver, BC and San Antonio, TX and has a constant hunger to travel and explore the world; little known fact is that she set foot on all seven continents before the age of 24. Haley continues to practice her PT part-time, mainly focusing on geriatric home health. She is an active volunteer who loves to hike, golf and sail in her spare time and can solve a Rubik’s cube in under three minutes.


Rebecca Obounou
Assistant Director, Leonard A. Schlesinger Fund for Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship

Rebecca advances the Leonard A. Schlesinger Fund’s efforts on the field of Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship (GHE) which is a nascent field of study that examines the systemic gaps in global healthcare systems that limits access, to affordable, safe and high quality healthcare in resource constrained settings. The goal of GHE is to empower individuals to apply Babson’s Entrepreneurial Thought & Action (ETA) to this problems both as entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. Prior to joining the Lewis Institute, she worked at MIT Sloan Executive Education.
Inspired by her experiences as a Haitian-American raised in both the US and Haiti, Rebecca founded a nonprofit organization, CHES, in 2008. Through her organization, she educates, mentors and funds entrepreneurs in rural areas of Haiti. To date, CHES has trained over 200 entrepreneurs of whom over 50% have been women. The organization has financed a women owned start-up that created five livable wage jobs in 2013.This past August, CHES began working 50 entrepreneurs from a community in Southern Haiti who lost their livelihoods from the damage caused by the October 2016 Hurricane Matthew. This community requested CHES' assistance in launching a 1,500 hen poultry farm. CHES successfully launched the first phase of a three-year engagement with this community which involves the following activities: training, financial assistance, coaching, mentoring monitoring and evaluation.
Rebecca earned her MBA at here at Babson concentrating in Entrepreneurship and one of the inaugural cohort members of the Lewis Institute's Business & Social Innovation Intensity Track. She also holds a BS in Management from Bentley University.


Riley Rodgers

Riley Rodgers is a Principal at Valia Investments, which is an early stage venture capital firm with an active presence in the US and Dubai. Valia empowers companies by connecting them to world class organizations in the MENA region. Prior to that, Riley was an associate at Arctaris Capital. He has mentored at many organizations including MassChallenge, City Links, Big Brothers Big Sisters, SCORE and TYE. He serves on the boards of The Capital Network and Conscious Capitalism Boston. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Managerial Economics while playing Men’s Soccer at Bentley University.


Vipin Sachdeva
Principal Investigator in Silicon Therapeutics

Vipin Sachdeva is a Principal Investigator in Silicon Therapeutics. Vipin was most recently with IBM in their T. J. Watson Research Center as a Senior Engineer working with several key IBM HPC clients including US and UK national laboratories on performance and programmability aspects of IBM's OpenPOWER initiative. Vipin’s previous work has applied high-performance computing to a wide variety of workloads including computational biology, seismic and other domains on several generations of IBM's hardware including Power, BlueGene and Cell processors. Vipin has over 10 years of experience of parallel programming and optimizing applications for CPUs, GPUs and other specialized hardware. Vipin is main author of a book chapter on multicore programming, over 30 refereed publications and has given multiple invited talks and has reviewed for multiple conferences and journals. He is a recipient of IBM's Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.  


Chris Busch
Senior Data Analyst IBM Watson Health Value Based Care

 Chris Busch cares deeply about people’s health and making a difference through analytics.  As a data analyst with more than 20 years of hands on experience, Chris has a deep understanding of both clinical data and social determinants of health.  As a member of the IBM Watson Health team Chris is  able to help organizations gain insights to improve the quality of care they provide to patients.  Chris enjoys working with entrepreneurs to see great ideas become reality and is a strong advocate for disruptive innovation and breaking through the barriers of tradition.


Dorit Zilbershot
VP of Product Management and R&D at Attivio

Dorit Zilbershot is the VP of Product Management and R&D at Attivio. She sets product strategy and leads development for the Attivio Cognitive Search and Insight Platform. Dorit has more than 15 years’ experience leading software development teams. Prior to Attivio, Dorit led the Boston Informatics group of the VA in building a genomic research platform to advance personalized medicine. She previously served as a Major in the Israeli Defense Force. Dorit holds an MPA from Harvard University, M.Sc. in Medical Science from the University of Tel-Aviv and a BA in Computer Science from the Technion.


Vikas Malaiya
Strategy Consultant with Blue Fin Group

Vikas is a Senior Consultant at Blue Fin Group. He has experience in the successful R&D, business development, commercialization, and distribution of therapeutics. He has worked in academia, on the bench in biotech, as a VC due diligence intern, and as a strategy consultant to biotech and pharma companies. Astrid Chow
Senior UX Designer & Researcher - Product Design Lead for Watson Health at IBM

Astrid Chow is a Senior UX Product Designer and Strategist leading multidisciplinary teams with her experience in user experience design, information architecture, usability testing and research, content strategy and user-advocacy. With a background in graphic, interactive, and branding design, Astrid brings 10+ years in the advertising agency world as a UX Design and Research Lead and Graphic Designer for such clients as LEGO, Healthways, Adidas, Nokia, PROJECT(RED), TIAA-CREF and Cadillac.

A graduate of Bentley University’s McCallum Graduate School, Astrid holds an MBA in Strategy and an MS in Human Factors in Information Design. Prior to her graduate studies, she graduated from the multi-disciplinary BHA program at Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied Fine Art (concentrating in Installation Art and Art Criticism), English and Communication Design.

A passionate contributor to the UX and Design community dialogue, Astrid explores topics such as fostering innovation, the need for user-centered design and the intersection of UX Design and Business Strategy in her ongoing article series "Practicing What We Preach" for UX Magazine.



Pravin Pant
Board Certified Adult/Gero Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

  Pravin Pant, RN, MSN, AGNP-BC is a primary care nurse practitioner with an extensive background in pain management, clinical research and digital health product development. He brings years of experience working on the opioid risk management and medication safety teams at Inflexxion, Inc, where he developed both patient- and clinician-facing educational initiatives to improve the assessment and treatment of chronic pain, as well as validated screening and assessment tools to stratify risk among patients on chronic non-cancer opioid therapy. At Massachusetts General Hospital, he studied inpatient floors’ opioid prescribing practices and how it related to their overall pain and quality scores, and assisted in the implementation of bedside/point-of-care electronic pain assessment tools. Pravin also has specialized training and interest in behavior change methodology, including motivational interviewing, as it relates to promoting self-efficacy in managing chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and substance use disorders in the primary care setting.


Abhi T.
Founder and Principal of Naya Consultants

Abhi is a true nomad at heart; he resides between Vancouver, BC and San Antonio, TX and more often than not is on the go.He is the Founder and Principal of Naya Consultants, a boutique Consultancy that aims to bring retail concepts with a social and/or environmental cause engrained in their DNA to market; check out Nada (www.nadagrocery.com) – “Canada’s first package-free grocery initiative”. In tandem, Naya performs the functions of a retail ninja by quietly and quickly assisting struggling mom and pop retailers with turnarounds. Furthermore, Naya is working on conceptual retail projects that focus on maximizing both the experience and efficiency of a retail space with the introduction of Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence.Abhi & Naya are also actively involved in the Not-For-Profit space, contributing to Start Up Kids Club (www.startupkidsclub.com), an organization which teaches children from the ages of 5-13 how to be entrepreneurs. Furthermore, they are currently drawing up the plans for a respite ranch for the families of children with special needs.Before devoting his work full time to Naya Consultants, Abhi served as Director for a luxury retailing behemoth where he successfully ran a network of 120 retail stores and 300 employees, generating gross revenues in excess of $120 million.He is a certified mentor & active volunteer who loves to cook, hike and travel in his spare time. Abhi earned his Bachelors of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada and his MBA from the International School of Hard Knocks.

Kelley Rieger
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner; On the Board of Directors for Show Me Your Stethoscope

Kelley received her BS from Rutgers University, and her RN and MSN from Yale University. She has practiced as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for nearly 20 years. Kelley has been a clinical consultant on a wide variety of subjects, from Electronic Health Record development to Parenting Coaching. She is also on the Board of Directors for Show Me Your Stethoscope, a group of nearly 700,000 stethoscope wearing health care providers engaged in advocacy, philanthropy, and unity in the nursing profession.


Jason Radford
CEO and founder of Volunteer Science

Jason Radford is the CEO and founder of Volunteer Science, a startup at Northeastern University, and a doctoral candidate in sociology at the University of Chicago. His major interest is in using computational methods and big data to revolutionize research and development. With David Lazer, he wrote the seminal article reviewing the impact of Big Data in sociology and is a frequent speaker on the development of computational methods and big data for social and behavioral research. At Volunteer Science, Jason is helping bring digital methods into the mainstream. Launched in 2014, Volunteer Science has been used by over 100 teams to create nearly 700 applications gathering data from over 300,000 people across 150 countries. The goal is to provide a platform for researchers and entrepreneurs to quickly develop, test, and prove out new concepts and tools.


Kevin Myers
Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

Kevin Myers is an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with 10+ years experience working with underserved populations and individuals affected by substance abuse.  Kevin is a Northeastern University School of Nursing “double husky” graduate — he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in 2009 and his Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree in 2015.  As a student nurse he began working with Health Innovations, a Massachusetts DPH-funded mobile health program that travels across the state to provide free HIV/STD/viral hepatitis screenings and other health care services.  In this role, Kevin continues to provide direct care to vulnerable populations in a variety of nontraditional settings.  He also works part-time as a Clinical Instructor for students enrolled in Northeastern’s Community/Public Health Nursing course.  Previously, Kevin has worked as an HIV/primary care Nurse Case Manager at Fenway Health, and as a Public Health Nurse in the Boston Public Health Commission’s Infectious Disease Bureau.  Kevin is an active member of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, and currently serves as the President of the ANAC Boston Chapter.


Celsea Tibbitt

Celsea Tibbitt is a Nursing PhD student at Northeastern University. She currently practices as a nurse case manager at Health Innovations, a mobile health clinic directed by Catherine O’Connor and implemented entirely by expert public health nurses; focusing on prevention and screening for infectious disease caring for underserved communities at high risk for contracting HIV. Health Innovations provides counseling and resources for communities heavily impacted by the opioid epidemic. Celsea is a clinical instructor for Northeastern nursing students completing their public health course placed at the Engagement Center, a welcoming environment for individuals in need of space off of the streets during the day and provides opportunity for guests to get connected to housing and recovery services. Celsea is particularly interested in the care of patients who have been exposed to discrimination in the healthcare system due to race, socioeconomic status, substance use, mental illness, gender, sexual orientation.  She hopes to explore new and inclusive approaches to addressing barriers to HIV care complicated by intersectionality within communities of color and marginalized communities.
