You have a business, great! Your business has a logo, great! You have a brand, well not just yet. Branding is more than just a company name and logo. A lot of work goes into forming a brand. Branding is a strategic process that builds awareness and extends customer loyalty. Branding is about creating the experience that makes it easy for people to choose your company over another.
Can someone tell your company apart from the rest? When you hand someone your business card (because you have a business card, right?) are you proud or embarrassed? What does your business believe in? Do you have loyal customers who love you and share your business with others? Does your business offer something unique that others can’t do as well or easily?

Visual branding is important. This is where your logo, colors, font, and styles come in. When someone sees the soft blue and yellow associated with Good&Smart, they can immediately reference us in their mind. If you see the Golden Arches, you know without even seeing a name, that McDonald’s is nearby.
As a business of any kind, no matter how relaxed your services or products may be, there are still certain times when it is appropriate to have professionalism. Not only will being seen as a professional business help your reputation, but also will help you get taken seriously. When you leave people with good first impressions that you’re prepared, honest, and consistent, it will make trusting you and your services easier.
3. What is your story?
Are you a company that gives 51% of all proceeds to an organization or charity of choice? Maybe you’re passionate about providing services for women. Every brand has a story, and yours should be told. People connect with stories, and they will see your business as more than just that - but something personal, that they share values and connections with.
A strong brand with great visual representation, customer service, and an impactful mission will ultimately attract loyal customers. When you have customers who love you and what you do, they will be more than willing to share your business with others without you having to ask. Word-of-mouth is the most influential and trusted tool of marketing, and who better for it to come from than your own clients?
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, but you can modify it, and make it unique to your company. What sets you apart from other companies that offer similar services or products that you do? Why would someone recommend your company over someone else's? Brands need to demonstrate their difference and make it easy for people to understand it. If your brand were to suddenly disappear, would anyone miss it?
