A global celebration of innovation that gives you, your idea, your team and your city a unique chance at startup success. 

GSB was created by the community and serves the community. It's your chance to stand up and show the world what you're all about. Rep your city, rep your region, bring home startup glory, and join a legacy of amazing GSB winners. During the weekend prior to and following Global Entrepreneurship Week, hundreds of Startup Weekend events are hosted around the world and winning teams from each event move forward to compete with one another via a global video competition.

Review agenda for the weekend and introduce speakers, coaches, and community leaders

Form Teams
Teams start forming and discussing ideas

After you form teams please make your way to the BoxJelly for coworking and building

BoxJelly - Begin Work
Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late at the BoxJelly as you want

Darius "Bubs" Monsef

Born & raised on the Big Island, Bubs is a successful startup founder that’s worked around the world and has come home to Hawaii to raise his family and help the local tech scene grow. He’s a founder & managing partner of Nalukai.org, a local non-profit focused on entrepreneurship and innovation with Hawaii’s youth.  His last startup,  CreativeMarket.com, was acquired by Autodesk in early 2014.  He’s an alumnus of Y Combinator, an active writer & speaker and an angel investor and advisor to several startups.

Steve Markowitz

Steve Markowitz is an investor and entrepreneur, whose experience includes leading a successful IPO. AngelList has recognized Steve as a "notable founder" and "notable operator."

His business endeavors include:
  • BeeStripe, Mile High Organics and NetPlenish (dba Shop Genius)—co founder and seed investor
  • Ritter Pharmaceuticals—founding investor
  • Volta Industries—seed investor


Tyler Arnold
CEO - Founder

Tyler Arnold is a sought-after, dynamic entrepreneur with expertise in IT and marketing. Having established two successful tech startup companies that have worked with top brands including: Microsoft, ebay, HBO, and top PR firms in the U.S. and Europe. Tyler has been a keynote speaker at TEDx, The Kaiser Permanente Executive Leadership Summit, and he has delivered lectures at The University of Leipzig (the second oldest university in Europe) and the University of Alaska. His writings have been published in Forbes, Fast Company, and Mashable, to name a few. He was selected as the Small Business Administration (SBA) Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011. With his knowledge of IT and marketing he helps business people connect the dots that create success in our digital world. Tyler has lived and worked in four countries; he currently resides in San Francisco.


Bernard Uy
Co-Founder / Creative Director, Wall-to-Wall Studios, A Brand Design Agency

Bernard Uy co-founded Wall-to-Wall Studios in Pittsburgh, PA in 1992 and in 2005 returned home to launch the second office in Honolulu. 

The agency specializes in growing brands through an integrated approach to design, technology and advertising, collaborating with local and national clients. Wall-to-Wall Studios has long been known for using humor, wit and emotion to forge connections between the brand and the audience.

Bernard has been actively involved with AIGA.org as past President of both Pittsburgh and Honolulu chapters. He has taught Communication Design as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon, and as a visiting professor at the St. Gallen School of Design in Switzerland. 

In 2009, much to his disbelief, he was named “Advertising Man of Year” by the Hawaii Chapter of the American Advertising Federation, and became a father. He spends most mornings thinking about lunch.

Susan Yamada
Executive Director, Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE), University of Hawaii

Susan Yamada has been the Executive Director of PACE since June 2008.  Located within the University of Hawaii’s Shidler College of Business, the Entrepreneurship Center hosts a comprehensive set of programs, utilizing both experiential and mentoring approaches to teaching students and faculty the process of entrepreneurship.
Prior Susan was the CEO and Founder of TRUSTe.
