In 54 hours, you'll learn exactly how to start a startup

Do you have an idea but don't know what to do next? Do you have the next big idea in healthcare?

Techstars Startup Weekend is the place to learn how to take the idea in your head and build it into a viable business.

You'll form an all-star team, create a prototype of your idea, validate it, receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, continually iterate, and finally pitch to a panel of judges made up of top VCs and business people - all in one weekend!

We're interested in the Health & Wellness verticals - from exercise apps to yoga innovations, patient portals to hospital security - but anyone with the goal of learning more about building out a business concept should attend and be a part of a team.

And if your idea is outside these market verticals, give it a shot anyway. There is no downside. You learn anyway you slice it. You won't regret it!

Who should participate?

In short - everyone! It doesn't matter what you do or where you come from. If you're interested in entrepreneurship, Startup Weekend LI is the place for you.

Startup Weekend brings together all types of people including designers, developers, creatives, business people, healthcare providers, doctors, nurses, and more.

What happens at Startup Weekend?

On Friday night, you'll pitch your own idea and/or listen to others. Everyone then votes on the most interesting ideas and form teams.

On Saturday, you'll work with top mentors and coaches to refine your idea and get customer feedback. Don't freak out when all your ideas go out the window and you're forced to pivot. That's what a real startup is like.

On Sunday, you'll learn how to create a million dollar pitch. It all comes together that night when you and your team present your work to a panel of judges including top VCs, business people, and community leaders.

While it's not required that you pitch an idea on Friday night, it's highly encouraged. Half the fun of Startup Weekend is getting out of your comfort zone and doing something that makes you a little bit nervous. Also, while you can come with friends, you’ll have the best experience if you participate in separate teams and on different ideas.

There's only 1 rule - Your idea can't be something that you're currently working on.

The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve has to be something completely new. It can't be something that you've previously worked on.

Startup Weekend is all about constant and rapid iteration and figuring out what problems customers are facing. If you already have a fully baked idea/business, you can't change quick enough and it won't be any fun for you or the other participants.

But don't worry - Startup Weekend is great for current founders, too. The skills that you learn and the people that you meet at Startup Weekend can easily be applied to your current startup.

In just one weekend, you'll:

  • Get introduced to the world of startups and entrepreneurship
  • Learn the process for going from concept to creation
  • Meet experienced, talented, and passionate entrepreneurs including mentors from Northwell Health and Techstars
  • Build a new network of developers, designers, and entrepreneurs eager, like you, to change the world
  • Get one-on-one time with amazing mentors
  • Receive special benefits and discounts from our global partners
  • Eat 7 delicious and nutritious meals along with unlimited snacks and coffee
