Startup Weekend Madison 2017

Has it been 6 years already?  We're extremely excited to be back in Madison for the 6th annual Startup Weekend.  Come out to University Research Park for our biggest event ever starting on Friday April 7th, running through Sunday evening April 9th. 

Whether you've been to startup weekend before or are coming for your first time, you're guaranteed to learn, meet, and develop your entrepreneurial side.

Friday April 7th

Arrive at the venue and get checked in

Dinner & Networking
Eat food, share ideas, practice pitches, get to know fellow participants

Welcome & Speakers
Review agenda for the weekend and introduce speakers, coaches, and community leaders

7:30 pm
Pitches Start
Optionally line up to give your pitch

9:00 pm
Attendees vote for the top pitches

9:15 pm
Form Teams
Teams start forming and discussing ideas

10:00 pm
Begin Work
Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late as the venue will allow

Saturday April 8th

Teams formed and setting up workspace for the weekend

Coaches help teams one-on-one. They are here to help!

Rachel Robinson

Rachel Robinson is a certified and clinically competent speech-language pathologist who has been in practice since 2012. When asked why she became a SLP she responded with, "communication is the most powerful tool we have in this world and through developing DotCom Therapy we are hoping to provide people that power from the comfort of home and with expert therapists not only in the field of speech but in the area of speech you need”. It is her hope that DotCom Therapy will become a household name and who you turn to for all of your communication needs.

Emily Purdom

Emily has extensive experience providing therapy services in underserved areas. She has a background in special education and leads DotCom Therapy pediatric services. Emily is certified in clinical competence through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is confident that expert therapy, when provided most conveniently, can change lives and can be successful worldwide. Emily graduated from Missouri State University with her M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders and received her Ed.S. from Arkansas State University in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Special Education.

Emmanuel Buah

I'm a software engineer and an entrepreneur in training. Over the past 14 years, I've worked at both big and small technology companies as well as founded/co-founded 2 start-ups in the Coworking and Mobile Social Networking space. My previous successful exits includes Madworks coworking (acquired in 2013 by University Research Park). 

I love all things 0's and 1's. I'm passionate about creating products that changes or enhances peoples' lives for the better. I love meeting and working with smart people.

Karen Hitchcock
Chief Experience Officer

Karen Hitchcock is Chief Experience Officer at healthfinch, a young but fast-growing healthcare IT company based in Madison, Wisconsin. For healthfinch, Karen has developed a unique and creative brand identity that has been instrumental in differentiating healthfinch in a crowded market. Her work, which includes brand development, proposal writing, and content marketing has helped healthfinch and its executives secure high-value media placements and speaking engagements. Before starting at healthfinch over two years ago, Karen was an independent marketing consultant whose clients included healthcare IT, insurance, and real estate start ups. She’s especially adept at helping young companies maximize their outreach efforts on limited budgets.

Molly Lahr

Molly Lahr has worked for American Family Ventures, a venture capital group, since 2015. With a tagline of "Fueling Entrepreneurs' Dreams" the company believes a significant opportunity exists at the intersection of technology and risk management. Meet Molly at this years Startup Weekend-Madison.

Sydney Lai
Head of Strategy, Token Foundry, Consensys

Sydney is a community leader and strategist with an award-winning background in sales and business development. Sydney has been named an LGBT Technology Leader by The White House, Office of Science and Technology Policy and is a TEDx Speaker on creating innovation within communities. She has worked as the Head of Business at Audacy, a space satellite startup. After founding her own token launch firm, she now leads strategy on tokenized projects for Token Foundry at ConsenSys and a co-founder at Crypto NYC, a blockchain coworking space based in Manhattan.
