Startup Weekend is an annual event at Crittenden Middle School to empower young entrepreneurs. In just 54 hours, you and your team of middle schoolers from across the SF Bay Area will listen to each other's ideas, form teams, be coached by educators and industry pros, design your product, code/create a prototype, and pitch your company in front of a panel of judges and audience members.

Thursday January 26th

Coding Workshops
Join us for your choice of coding workshops: Block Coding (for beginners) or Web Application Basics (HTML and CSS) (duration: 2 hours)

Friday January 27th

4:00 pm
Arrive at the venue and get checked in

Welcome & Introduction
Review agenda for the weekend and introduce speakers, coaches, and mentors.

5:15 pm
How To Pitch

5:30 pm
Dinner and pitch practice.

6:00 pm
Pitches Start

7:00 pm
Vote for the best ideas that were pitched.

Team Formation
Teams of five to six people are formed around the winning pitches. Each team is assigned a coach.

Founder & CTO of Quizlet

Andrew Sutherland is the founder and CTO of Quizlet, the user-powered learning platform used by more than 40 million students and teachers each month. Andrew founded Quizlet in 2005 while a sophomore at Albany High School in California, originally building a simple website to help himself study French vocabulary. He studied computer science at MIT, which he left after three years to continue working on Quizlet. As CTO, Andrew is in charge of building the technology that powers more than 300 million study sets and allows millions of students to learn more efficiently. In 2012 and 2013, he was featured in Forbes Magazine's 30 under 30 List for Education.
