Startup Weekend New Orleans

Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable.  On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical or design backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds. Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts.

If you’ve ever wanted to test out that idea you’ve always thought would make a great business or get to know more people and possibly work in the startup community in New Orleans, Startup Weekend is the weekend to start. Coaches and judges are being brought in from a lot of the major tech companies in the area, as well as from out of town, to work with groups to help them develop their ideas into realities. Some of the companies that were created through previous Startup Weekends in New Orleans have gone on to pitch for millions of dollars, while others found it to be a great excuse to build something new and meet a lot of new people doing it.

It’s also great networking opportunity to meet with people from all different types of industries, including: software development, angel investing, public relations, marketing, legal, etc. At last year’s Weekend, we had coaches from all over the country that had backgrounds with Google, Twitter & Yahoo, as well as local companies like Peter Mayer, Oseberg, Search Influence, Ochsner and Iberia Bank.

Startup Weekend New Orleans is design to be fun and free flowing to connect new faces with recognizable ones around the city and grow the startup community.
