What is it? Startup Weekend is a 54 hour event that brings together people from all backgrounds to build a startup business in a weekend! For this event, we are focusing on fashion technology. More about Startup Weekend program: http://startupweekend.org/

What is Fashion Technology?  In a broad sense, it’s when fashion (what we wear, what we aspire to be, how we present ourselves to society through clothing) meets technology (innovation, a digital presence, engaging online & mobile content.) It’s fashion embracing a new and digital component to sell / present their business model. It’s where technology and fashion have merged to create faster and more innovative ways to shop, market, educate and ultimately experience the fashion industry whether through software, apps or products. Brad Feinstein
Co-founder & President of Dropel Fabrics

Bradley Feinstein is a non-stop innovator with a passion for building businesses that offer solutions to real-life problems.

He spent the first part of his career as a management consultant at Capgemini traveling the world taking on strategic engagements in the US, London, and Hong Kong. He moved to American Express where he focused on new pricing initiatives for SMBs.

Brad then went on to start his first company, Petstablished, management software for animal rescues. He secured $600k in funding. Within 2 years, 10,000 pets were adopted from 75 different organizations.

His latest venture is Dropel with Simardev Gulati. Dropel makes clothing lifeproof. They develop and produce performance-enhanced natural fabrics and fibers for apparel brands. Dropel fabrics can handle anything life brings your way (water, stain, odor repellent) while retaining the softness and comfort you expect from cotton. They are making quite a splash with features in TIME, Forbes, WWD, SXSW Innovative World Technology, and 100 Most Exciting Startups in NYC.

Jackie Trebilcock is a fashion, technology, and business development executive with over 15+ years experience working with entrepreneurs to grow their vision and company via strategic planning and relevant industry introductions. Jackie is currently the Managing Director of The New York Fashion Tech Lab. Founded in 2014 by the Partnership Fund of New York City and Springboard Enterprises, The NYFTL connects a select cohort of early stage fashion-focused technology companies with New York’s leading fashion retailers and brands fostering iteration, validation, and acceleration of technologies to advance the industry.


Rob Sanchez
Host, Founder

Robert Sanchez is currently the COO of Open Source Business, co-host of the Fashion Is Your Business podcast, co-host of the Material Is Your Business podcast, and an Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham Law School where he sits on the Entrepreneurial Law Alumni Council.

Rob holds a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and B.A. from Yale University. He is a 2016 NYC Fashion Fellow, was named one of the top 12 people to watch in Fashion Tech by AlleyWatch, and was featured in the Fordham Lawyer for his work in entrepreneurship and the fashion industry.

Liza Kindred
Founder at Third Wave Fashion; Author of Future of Commerce

Liza Kindred, the founder of Third Wave Fashion, has been writing frequently and speaking globally for many years. She is considered the top expert on fashion tech–and she’s literally wrote the book on the future of commerce, as well as a second book about designing for wearables and connected devices. Audiences love to hear her speak; she’s been called “inspiring” and “courageous”, as well as “fabulous and informative”. She has spoken at, keynoted for, and moderated panels at nearly 100 conferences and events.


Dalia Strum
Chief Content Officer

Dalia Strum is a leader at the intersection of fashion + retail + tech. She is the Chief Content Officer of TheCurrent, an open innovation company connecting fashion, retail + luxury brands with ground-breaking ideas & technologies. She also teaches Digital Marketing and Strategy at The Fashion Institute of Technology.

With previous experience as CEO and Founder of Mommy's ToolBox and CozyWallet Inc., she was responsible for identifying and executing category launches, as well as deploying game-changing customer acquisition strategies and developing strategic brand partnerships.  

Prior to CozyWallet, she was Vice President of Army Navy USA, where I was responsible for Digital Marketing Strategies, Increasing revenue from various online marketing channels, and utilizing Emerging Technology.  


She currently teaches Intro to Social Media, Social Media Marketing, Social Commerce, Blogging for Business, and Digital Marketing at The Fashion Institute of Technology, guest teaches Marketing at Baruch College & NYU.  She was recently featured as a Keynote Speaker for the Retail Marketing Society “Inside Buzz about Fashion Bloggers”  and Panel Moderator for How brands are using new music to reach consumers  at Sound City New York and a winner at Hearst Corporation’s recent Hackathon.

She is currently on the Advisory Council for The Fashion Institute of Technology’s Entrepreneurship Program, The Advisory Board for Westchester College, Mentor at Lean Startup Machine as well as  frequently quoted in Luxury Daily and Evins Aperture as an industry expert, in addition to moderating and speaking at highly relevant events at The Fashion Institute of Technology.

I'm fascinated by the nascent market for wearable tech and women’s athletic wear. There is a massive opportunity for technology to be integrated with fashion design, and I will be at that intersection.  Fashion companies have tech departments; Tech companies don’t have fashion departments.  We are rapidly approaching that inflection point. Working with top level brands allows me to lead a team and develop brand strategies.  I focus on making the entire team successful, anticipating their needs and helping to eliminate any road blocks.  When my team feels supported and motivated we can achieve anything.  In each area of expertise, I know the language and make sure everyone is heard. Deanna Clark-Esposito
Principal Attorney at Clark-Esposito Law Firm, P.C.

Deanna is the Principal Attorney at the Clark-Esposito Law Firm, P.C. where she helps companies streamline their business operations through the strategic navigation of complex federal laws in relation to commodities including wearing apparel, textiles, hemp, and tobacco product accessories. She is also an Adjunct Professor at NYCs Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) and LIM College where she teaches International Business Law from a fashion perspective. Deanna is an avid speaker with the US Small Business Administration and the NYC Public Library, among other notable platforms and participated in a film by the USAID East Africa Trade Hub in relation to the textile and manufacturing industries. Deanna is the recipient of an international Junior Faculty Award for her essay on "Fashion Beyond Borders: A Fusion of Technology and Free Trade Agreements Pave the Way into the Largest Economy in the World - A Case Study on the African Fashion Industry & the AGOA Agreement” (African Growth and Opportunity Act), and has been featured in articles in various magazines, including Lucky Magazine and Ecouterre for her 2017 Eco-Fashion Predictions. She formerly served as an advisor to Africa Fashion Week New York and has a fashion law textbook scheduled for publication in January 2018 entitled, “A Practical Guide to Fashion Law and Compliance,” with Fairchild Books of Bloomsbury Publishing. Deanna received her B.A. in Peace & Conflict Studies from the University of California at Berkeley and her J.D. from Tulane University Law School. Prior to law school, she received her M.A. in Diplomatic Studies from the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies at the University of Malta. Marc Raco
Chief Creative Officer at Open Source Business

Marc Raco is a creative entrepreneur, media producer, podcast host, comedian, actor, writer and composer with a career focused on storytelling in business and entertainment. In addition to his roles as Chief Creative Officer for Open Source Business, as one of the hosts and producers of the popular podcast "Fashion Is Your Business" and as Executive Producer for the innovative social impact project “The Hope Is Project”, Marc is one of the founders of a media network and an educator in the podcasting industry. On the production side of feature and short films, commercials, parodies, infomercials, radio programs and pilot presentations, as director, producer, writer, executive producer, editor, visual effects editor, and/or musical director, he has won 8 Telly Awards and several other recognitions for work including campaigns for major brands, Marc has interviewed celebrities, rising talents and innovators, professional athletes, and business leaders as the host/producer of the podcast “Monkey Radio with Marc” . Veronika Harbick
Co-Founder & CEO at Thursday Finest

Ex-brand strategist turned fashion tech entrepreneur, Veronika develop marketing strategies for Fortune 500 brands. This work and a relentless curiosity lead her to co-found Thursday Finest. Veronika has a unique, hands-on understanding of the emerging space - from technical fibers to 3D-knitwear engineering and ecommerce to marketing. As a 3D-knit programmer herself, she is one of small number of people with that skill. She has spoken conferences about the future of retail, fashion tech and consumer brands. Launched in December 2015, Thursday Finest is a vertically-integrated knitwear brand that uses 3D-knitting robots and proprietary tech to make custom apparel at scale. Their first four products - knit socks, hats, scarves and ties - are made on demand in Brooklyn in custom styles, colors and granular sizes. In January, Thursday Finest opened the first pop-up shop that made custom knitwear for customers in store in minutes. Thursday Finest has been featured in Vogue, Colette, Gear Patrol, Design Milk, Forbes, Wallpaper, Martha Stewart, among others & were part of the Fashion Tech accelerator NYFTLab in 2016.


Melissa Gonzalez
CEO at The Lionesque Group

Melissa Gonzalez is the CEO of The Lionesque Group and author of The Pop Up Paradigm: How Brands Can Build Human Connections in a Digital Age. She and her team have produced over 100 pop-up stores since 2000 and Gonzalez has become the go-to retail and pop-up architect for brands looking to either launch their brand, test new markets or insert their brand into strategic conversations. Beginning with the vision of the branded experience, Melissa guides clients throughout the entire lifecycle of the pop-up experience. Gonzalez is also the Chief Pop-Up Architect 22 City Link, Virginia’s first ever smart city, and is the co-founder of THE MARKET at the Roger Smith Hotel, a renovated and innovative space for pop-up retail, which has grown from one to four storefronts since inception in 2010. Outside of helping clients exceed their goals, she is a regular contributor on ABC LA Radio and is one of IBM’s Retail Futurists. She has been awarded Retail Touch Point’s 2015 Retail Innovator of the Year, the Wall Street Journal’s Donor of the Day, one the top 20 Most Inspiring People in New York City and one of the Top 100 Young CEO's- via Our Time's White House Initiative. Megan Berry is the founder and CEO of by REVEAL, an end-to-end retail solution for emerging designers and established brands to connect with their consumers in-person, anywhere they are. Prior to turning her graduate thesis project into a company, Megan studied at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and has worked for companies including Starbucks Global Store Development and SCDA Architects.


Keeth Smart
Co-Founder & COO at Physiclo

Keeth Smart is the co-founder and COO of Physiclo, a fitness technology company based in New York City. Physiclo creates functional fitness wear with built-in resistance designed to tone muscle more effectively, burn calories quicker and help you get the most out of your workout. Prior to launching Physiclo, Keeth served in a variety of finance, business development and strategic roles at Verizon, Google and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In his last role at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Keeth was responsible for their Directed Share Program, a plan designed to allow company employees, their relatives, and other parties with a relationship to the company purchase stock as part of a public offering. In addition, Keeth is an Olympic Silver Medalist (2008) and a three-time member of the U.S. Olympic Fencing team (2000, 2004, 2008). Keeth also holds the distinction of being the first American fencer to be ranked number 1 in the world in 2003. Keeth earned an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from St. John’s University. Keeth lives in New York City and is a trustee at the United States Fencing Foundation and serves on the board of The Peter Westbrook Foundation, which helps inner-city children develop life skills through the sport of fencing and the Columbia Venture Community.


Nataliya Makulova
Technical Project Manager and Fashion Tech Consultant at SPRING

Nataliya was born in Moscow, where she developed her interest in fashion and retail. She studied Fashion Design in London's University of the Arts and Fashion Merchandising Management at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. At the age of 19 she launched her own small e-commerce business in Russia. For over 7 years she has been working with international brands as a sales representative, and later as a strategist and business consultant. With a deep interest in technology and start ups, she pursued her career in fashion tech start ups: at Moda Operandi and later, at Tinker Tailor, a fashion customization platform. Currently Nataliya is a Technical Project Manager at SPRING, owns a fashion business consulting company and works on her own start up focused on AI for fashion product recommendations. She is an active member of the fashion tech community in NY, curates her own email list of creative tech events and contributes as a writer at Open Source Fashion Magazine.


Stephanie Benedetto

Corporate attorney turned fashion tech entrepreneur, Stephanie Benedetto is the Co-Founder of Queen of Raw, an e-commerce platform connecting designers to suppliers of innovative & sustainable raw materials. Stephanie has worked as a lawyer in the fashion, media/entertainment, and technology industries and co-founded a sustainable textile manufacturing facility. Her companies have been featured in Vogue, WWD, InStyle, ELLE, Fortune, Entrepreneur, and Fast Company. Stephanie is a 2016 NASA/NIKE/U.S. Dept. of State LAUNCH.org Innovator, was nominated as a Founder to Watch by Women 2.0, and was a Finalist for the $1M Verizon Powerful Answers Award and the WGSN Global Fashion Awards. She serves on the Board of Advisors of the NYC Fair Trade Coalition and as co-host of Material Is Your Business podcast.


Julia Macalaster
Co-Founder & COO at PreeLine

Julia Macalaster is the co-founder and COO of PreeLine. She is a fashion and technology professional who has worked in strategy consulting, e-commerce and mobile solutions. Driven by a passion for new and entrepreneurial opportunities, Julia first entered the e-commerce industry as the founder of her company, Winship LLC (a men’s underwear brand) in 2012, and later with Mack Weldon (www.mackweldon.com), an e-commerce men's basics company based out of New York. Julia's experience in mobile solutions began during her time as a management consultant with Booz Digital. There she worked with one of the largest public companies in the US developing and implementing their mobile payment and loyalty solutions strategy. From there Julia further developed her experience with mobile technologies at MicroStrategy, where she worked with top retail brands to find mobile solutions and strategies. Julia is passionate about always driving to find the solution to every problem. She attended Princeton University and rowed on the varsity crew team. She currently resides in New York.


Tadd Spering
CEO at Stylinity

Tadd has held senior sales, management, and product development positions at HSBC and Catamaran. At Catamaran, Tadd was responsible for the ideation and development of a value-based pharmacy benefit management solution that measurably improved adherence rates for multiple disease states and a proactive real-time claim subrogation engine. During his five year tenure at Catamaran, the company's stock price increased more than 1,100% and the company became the fastest growing company in the world in 2011, according to Fortune Magazine. Tadd’s prior interest in technology entrepreneurship led him to found NRGOnline, a web development company, while earning his degree in International Business and Management at Dickinson College, with specializations in in econometrics and Latin American Studies. Tadd has been featured in Forbes and as a panelist at PricewaterhouseCoopers, in addition to providing commentary as a subject matter expert for their Total Retail 2015: Retailer and the Age of Disruption report. An avid hiker, skier, and traveler, Tadd enjoys combining his love for technology with his passion for the great outdoors.


Avani Patel
Founder & CEO at TrendSeeder; Head of Harvard Business School Startup Studio NYC

Avani joins HBS with years of experience in the startup world in various capacities including as a founder, advisor, mentor and investor. Most recently she founded TrendSeeder, the first fashion-focused accelerator in NYC, which has a deep educational focus described by Women's Wear Daily as a "mini-MBA program taught by industry experts." TrendSeeder also boasts a highly curated list of over one hundred mentors recruited by Avani from the executive levels of the most highly regarded fashion companies around the world. In her work with TrendSeeder and other organizations, Avani has advised over five hundred entrepreneurs. She has also traveled the world, including to Oulu, Finland for the Midnight Pitch Fest to share her entrepreneurial expertise. Avani was also named a Role Model by Carrie Hammer and graced the company's runway at New York Fashion Week in 2015. 
Prior to founding TrendSeeder, Avani had a career as a corporate attorney where she worked on multi-billion dollar mergers. However, TrendSeeder wasn't Avani's first foray into the fashion world. She founded a men's and women's contemporary clothing label when she was in law school which was featured in a fashion show at Lollapalooza. 
Avani also finds the time to give back and has worked with organizations like the Tory Burch Foundation, the Girl Scouts and the Athena Center at Barnard College.

Sumeet Shah

Principal, Brand Foundry Ventures

Sumeet handles sourcing and managing new opportunities at Brand Foundry Ventures, a seed-stage venture capital firm focused on low-tech and high-tech consumer products and devices. He has over 6 years of experience across the startup and private equity industries, formerly running new business strategies at Gist Digital and handling business development and project work at Gotham Consulting Partners. He also assisted in the creation of XRC Labs, a consumer and retail accelerator run by Kurt Salmon and Parsons, as the Program Manager for their inaugural class and was Head of Strategic Partnerships for their second class. 


Bill Mantegna

As a co-founder, Bill manages everything technical at Komeeda. This includes coding, recruitment, managing the scrum process, and managing the development team. Prior to co-founding Komeeda, he spent 5 years in the insurance & finance industries. A Startup Weekend alumni, he's participated in, and placed 2nd in two Startup Weekends. Bill spends his time trying to tie together all of things he loves: food, cooking, exercise, & software.
