Startup Weekend OU- the Innovation Hub's Inaugural Event for Entrepreneurs!

Startup Weekend OU 2016 has the distinction of being the first sneak peek event held in OU's brand new Innovation Hub! Join us for a three-day blitz of entrepreneurship as a soft opening for the Innovation Hub, with an exclusive preview tour.

On Friday night, pitch your idea for a new startup and collect a team of excited, talented OU students, community members, aspiring entrepreneurs, and friends. Spend Saturday refining your concept and conducting fast-paced customer discovery and feedback. On Sunday, polish your pitch and compete to win a prize package from our judging panel of local business owners and entrepreneurs.

Welcome and Tour
Review agenda for the weekend, introduce the organizing team, and explore the brand new space at OU's Innovation Hub.

Mentors from local startups and businesses will be available to join teams for problem-solving and feedback- group 1 from 10am to 12pm.

Mentors from local startups and businesses will be available to join teams for problem-solving and feedback- group 1 from 12pm to 2pm. Some mentors may stay later, but teams are encouraged to take the afternoon to go out into the community and collect user feedback.

Fab Lab presentation!
Brant Smith, the director of the Innovation Hub's Fab Lab, will give a short presentation and tour of what the high-tech shop space will look like!

Check-In
The organizing team will be around all weekend to provide feedback and assistance. We'll check in before doors close on Saturday night to make sure teams know what to expect for pitches on Sunday.

The Innovation Hub will close at 9pm on Saturday. Teams are welcome to continue working in local open-late restaurants or public spaces.

3pm is the hard deadline for teams to finish their work and submit slide decks for pitches.

Teams will pitch to a panel of judges comprised of local business owners and entrepreneurs.

The winners will be announced after all pitches are given and judges deliberate.

Brandt is the newly appointed Director of the Innovation Hub's Fab Lab! He'll be giving us a sneak preview of what the high-tech machine shop will look like and what kind of programs will be available once the space is fully open.

Andrew Pollock

Andrew Pollock joined the Office of Technology Development in March of 2014 as the Director of Business Development.  In this role Andrew’s focus is to transition University IP assets to commercial entities for introduction to the market for the public’s benefit.  Additionally, Andrew manages internal relationships with novel knowledge generators from the Norman and Tulsa Campuses, and collaborates with inventors to convert concepts into marketable IP.

Prior to joining the University of Oklahoma, Jeff addressed growth and entrepreneurship in a variety of roles and institutions, across a spectrum of industries.

As an Associate Principal with McKinsey & Co., a global management consulting firm, he provided senior leadership counsel to a wide variety of manufacturing, financial, and energy businesses in capital project evaluation and execution, transaction due diligence, and strategic planning.


Sue Ringus

As Director of the CCEW Internship, Sue provides support for CCEW in problem solving, visual and verbal communication, professional development, and growth of the internship program.

Previously Sue was an engagement manager with McKinsey and Co., a global management consultancy, serving clients in education, financial services and pharmaceutical/ life sciences on strategic and operational issues.
