Techstars Global Startup Weekend Pensacola (TGSW) connects entrepreneurs, organizing teams, and startup communities around the world. As an attendee you will get access to exclusive resources to help prep for success at Techstars Startup Weekend and make connections with mentors and other startup teams. To help you keep growing after the event, the winning team of each event will receive helpful perks for building their startup as well as a showcase in our global channels.

Do you have an idea you'd like to pursue or a problem you'd like to solve but don't know where to start or who to start with?

Techstars Startup Weekend is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

What do you need to bring?

Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.

Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely! Important: You cannot have worked previously on your idea.

Techstars Startup Weekend is a full weekend long experience. Your ticket includes:

Event Judges


Veronique Zayas

Veronique Zayas is the founder and Creative Director of HatchMark Studio. A Texas native, she graduated Baylor University with a degree in Graphic Design and built her career in the Dallas area. She has worked on brand accounts for national clients including LinkedIn, Wal-Mart, and Kraft – as well as non-profits such as American Red Cross, Be the Match and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Her experience spans everything from branding to publishing to shopper marketing to digital and social campaigns.   She now calls Pensacola home and has brought her focus to branding and brand development – working with a range of clients from start-ups to established organizations. No matter the structure or the age of the business, her strength comes in helping them define who they are and translate that to both their employees and their end consumer to create a cohesive, authentic brand voice. She strongly believes that an honest and well-executed brand is integral in helping a business communicate their value and build trust with their customers.   Veronique along with her husband, Phil, have an 8-year-old son and enjoy getting outdoors and enjoying all that Pensacola has to offer. She’s usually working on a side passion project and enjoys mentoring local design students and building the design community through collaboration, conversation and coffee.

Dr. Robert Perkins

Dr. Bob Perkins earned his PhD. in Organizational Behavior at Colorado State University by conducting field studies linking leadership practices to team performance in firms such as IBM, Ball Brothers Research Corporation, and prominent financial institutions.   Bob served in the US Army as chief of psychology at Fitzsimons Hospital and later as the head of Applied Behavioral Science for NCR Corporation. At a time of crisis, he designed and implemented a set of effective innovations for NCR’s new leadership and culture.   Bob began his consulting career at Hay Associates, where he provided reward management, strategy studies and executive/organizational development to a variety of industries. Joining RHR, an international psychological consulting firm, he recruited, trained and led a team of PhDs, creating a highly successful organizational and executive development practice.     Bob established Corporate Psychology to provide behavioral science-based solutions for business leaders. Bob has coached dozens of “start-up” leaders and scores of senior executives at leading corporations, including Aon, Coca Cola and Cox. Clients have engaged him on global assignments in eight countries, including the UK, Poland and Saudi Arabia,   During his decades of consulting, Bob taught classes at the Ohio State University, the University of Colorado, Georgia Tech, and other universities, before accepting a full time academic position as a management professor at Mercer University to “pass along the lessons my clients taught me,” and establish a new program in entrepreneurship.   He has continued to investigate teams and leadership, publishing cutting-edge research papers based in executive coaching, entrepreneurship, high-velocity change and creating powerful cultures. Bob has been a popular expert speaker on contemporary business leadership issues.   In 2016 he joined the University of West Florida where he initiated the Elevator Pitch Contest last spring, and worked with the Center for Entrepreneurship launching the October Da Vinci Innovation Celebration. Bob recently co-taught a brand-new and highly successful course, “Innovation within the Organization” with Pensacola’s outstanding entrepreneur, Quint Studer.


Lloyd Reshard

Lloyd Reshard serves as CEO for Cognitive Big Data Systems Inc. a local award winning technology startup that graduated from the City of Fort Walton Beach’s Venture Hive accelerator program.  He’s also the President of Pivotal Data Technologies, a company that provides consulting services on using real-time computing technologies. He has served on the College of Engineering Advisory Board at Virginia Tech, the Board of Trustees Community Maritime Park Associates Inc. and as a part-time Senior Research Scientist at George Washington University.  He currently serves on the Mechanical Engineering Advisory Committee at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and the Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.  He is a national award-winning engineer, his recognitions include Black Engineer of the Year Award for Career Achievement Government, the DoD Civilian Meritorious Service Award for the Global War On Terrorism, the General Lester L. Lyles Award for employee mentoring, the National Science Foundation’s Center for High-Performance Reconfigurable Computing Vision Award and the Air Force Material Command NAACP Award for promoting diversity in the workplace.                                                                                                               In April of 2012, Mr. Reshard retired after 26 years with the Air Force Research Laboratory, where he spent his last six years as the Chief of the Munitions Aerodynamics Sciences Branch. There, Mr. Reshard managed one of the largest branches with 34 employees, and executed $250M in programs in six years, averaging over $40M annually.  Mr. Reshard’s extensive and diverse technology development portfolio ranged from micro air weapons and robots to massive 15-ton penetrator concepts.  His passion in research was computing, so he initiated and collaborated in over $10M in research to investigate alternative ways to process data in real-time and found that AI using artificial neural networks was the number one way, followed by reconfigurable computing. His drive lead to the founding of one of NSF most successful centers, the Center for High-Performance Reconfigurable Computing. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  He began his engineering career at Bendix Corporation as a process and product engineer.  Mr. Reshard is married to Robin, an independent television producer and host and motivational speaker, and together they have three children: Lloyd, Jr., Nathalie, and Theron.

Briana Snellgrove started her company Social ICON, LLC 4 years ago at Startup Weekend. Mr. Zayas is a graduate of Baylor University in Waco, TX and the University of California Davis’ Master Brewers Program, the most prestigious brewing school in North America.  Because of his passion for beer and craft brewing, Mr. Zayas has spent the last decade learning the ins and outs of the beer industry and is in the process of opening Emerald Republic Brewing in Pensacola, FL.  Prior to working as a regional sales representative for the third largest craft brewery in the US, New Belgium Brewing Company, he worked in sales for the beer distribution company Andrews Distributing in Dallas, TX.  Before working for Andrews Distributing in sales, Mr. Zayas worked in a commercial craft brewery, Franconia Brewing Company, as a brewhouse assistant.  His goal is that one day Emerald Republic will represent the next generation of American craft beer.  Mr. Zayas has 10 years of experience in brewing operations, direct sales, account management, logistics, field branding, product quality control and wholesaler distribution sales.
