Get-up, Grit-up, Start-up!

Have you ever had an idea or a problem you'd like to solve but didn’t know where to start or who to start with? Then Techstars Startup Weekend is for you! Jan 24-26 will be an experiential weekend of learning about entrepreneuership, build a team and work on a business idea together, create a demo of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts. The Latinx community is incredibly powerful. More than that, we’re integral to the ever-changing landscape of the United States, and in turn, to the changing landscape of the tech world. So why shouldn’t we be at the forefront of the industry?

We should, and that's why we want to inspire more Latinx entrepreneurs in Philly! Allies are also welcomed to come build with us!  Related article hereWhat do you need to bring?Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend, you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely! Important: You cannot have worked previously on your idea.Your ticket includes:
  • 7 full (and delicious) meals over the course of the weekend
  • Benefits and discounts from our global partners
  • One-on-one time with amazing mentors
  • A new network of developers, designers, and entrepreneurs eager, like you, to change the world.
  • All the internet, snacks, and coffee you can consume.

Jonathan Diaz
Business Strategist / VC Fellow

I tell stories using data.

I always imagined I'd be a city planner promoting sustainable community development and performing poetry at open mics. Nevertheless, along the way, I found joy in the challenges of turning data into insights and action for clients. Consulting has given me exposure to a variety of industries and applications, but more importantly, it has taught me the essence of collaboration throughout an analytics journey.

I have learned to put stakeholders at the center of all that I do, the value of sound strategy, and the power of mentorship. As I have moved across the East Coast (Boston > DC > NYC), I've engaged with several startup ecosystems, acquiring an interest in the venture capital space. Particularly in building capacity and investing in underrepresented entrepreneurs.

Outside of those realms, I am hunting for the best indoor cycling class, hanging out with family and friends, and exploring NYC one coffee shop at a time.
