Join us for the first ever Startup Weekend in Redding, CA!

Launch a startup in 54 hours. 
Shasta County is hosting its first Startup Weekend November 20-22 where participants will pitch, join a team, and build a viable business in one weekend. 

Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations. Participants create working startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurials. The weekend is centered around action, innovation, and education. Whether you are looking for feedback on a idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekends are the perfect environment in which to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.

Executive Director, SAGE - Shasta Angel Group for Entrepreneurs

Eric A. Hiatt a Redding native is currently Managing Partner at Synergy One Lending DBA Retirement funding Solutions. Founder and Chairman of the Board at Reverse Focus Inc. a technology company that sells SAAS to the mortgage industry. Executive Director, Investor and board member at Shasta Angels. He also holds multiple board seats and has placed capital in multiple start ups through his private fund Level Up Capital LLC. Previous he was a Partner and SVP at Security One Lending Inc. at one time America’s largest Reverse Mortgage Bank. (Sold to WIMC in Dec 2012).


Wendy Porter

Wendy Porter is the managing director at Chicostart a startup incubator and entrepreneur community in Chico CA.  Over the past 2 years Wendy has helped develop the mentoring, benchmarking, and workshop programs that drive Chicostart tech startups to realizing their goals.  Chicostart is happy to announce 5 startups have graduated the program and 38 jobs have been created so far. The entrepreneurial community that has come together around this hub of innovation is nothing short of inspiring!  Daily Wendy does her best to keep this train moving through her mosh pit of skills.. relationship handling, people connecting, tech foundation and a dash of serial entrepreneurial-ship.  Learn more about Chicostart!

Luke Miner is an entrepreneur, traveler, adventurer and learner. My main business achievement is co-founding the crowdfunding platform YouCaring.com. Since inception in 2011, YouCaring has raised over 250M for causes. I have travelled to 15 countries, many of them 2 or 3 times. One of my top dreams is to hike Machu Picchu. I'm currently the Entrepreneur in Residence for Shasta Venture Hub, and have a passion for partnering with local entrepreneurs.

Joshua Johnson
Founder

Joshua Johnson is the founder of Mindbox Studios. He and his team have helped launch over 100 startups, raise millions of dollars in seed capital, and develop innovative technologies in multiple industries. Joshua attended his first Startup Weekend in 2009 and has been the same since. He is also one of the few who has had the privilege of serving as participant, mentor, judge, and facilitator in over 10 events. 
Before moving to Redding in August, Joshua served on the board of the GCVA (Greater Cincinnati Venture Association), and regularly mentored at local accelerators, OCEAN and UpTech

Aaron Nelson
Owner at Venture Properties

With little money or entrepreneurial experience, Aaron took a risk in 2007 and started Venture Properties when the real estate market was capitulating into a period of change and upheaval. Helping one client at a time and adding over 20 agents to the company since then, Venture has grown to become the third most productive real estate brokerage in Shasta County and in 2015 alone will do over $90 million in sales. Aaron's hands-on experience in the real estate market coupled with his fascination for creating multiple streams of income led him down the path of becoming a real estate investor. In addition to owning a commercial building, duplexes, and houses which he rents out for passive income, Aaron has personally bought, rehabbed, and sold over a hundred homes and apartments in California.


Matthew Wilson

Matthew Wilson is the owner of Sidebar Legal in Redding, California. His firm provides legal services for entrepreneurs and emerging businesses, including entity formation, legal contracts, intellectual property matters, financing, business counsel and strategic planning. With over 20 years of experience in corporate law, securities, mergers & acquisitions, digital media and intellectual property, Matthew has a wealth of knowledge to offer start up companies and growing business.



Chris Resner
Owner at Dutch Bros. Coffee

Chris and Erin Resner are a dream team who are spreading Dutch Love all over the North State.
The owners of seven local Dutch Bros. coffee kiosks (soon to be eight!), the Resners bubble over with energy, philanthropy and a commitment to the community where they are raising their two young boys, Beckett and Rally. Chris and Erin, along with the Dutch Bros. team, have raised tens of thousands of dollars for worthy causes, including Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Adopt-A-Family and countless local fundraisers.
Chris began working at an Oregon Dutch Bros. in 1997, and after attending art school, he opened his first shop on Churn Creek Road in Redding in April 2004, when he and four employees covered every shift. Since then, the Resners have added five more shops in Redding and one in Palo Cedro.
The couple, who met at Bible study and married almost seven years ago, have earned numerous accolades for their work. In 2012, Erin Resner was named the ambassador of the Record Searchlight's "20 Under 40," which honors young people who are making a difference in the community. In 2011, the couple won the Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce's VirgilCovington Legacy Award. Two years earlier, Chris Resner was awarded Humanitarian of the Year by the North State chapter of the California Restaurant Association. Chris and Erin are both involved in community projects organizations and have contributed greatly to where we stand today.


Mitch Santala
President and Owner of Executive Scheduling Associates (ESA)

Mitch Santala is the president and owner of Executive Scheduling Associates (ESA). Started in January 2007, ESA began as an idea, in a garage, in Redding, Ca, and has now become the nation's leading scheduling firm in the Financial Industry. Mitch also pastors at the Stirring Church and helps in the area of strategy and vision development. When not working, Mitch enjoys spending time with his wife of 23 years, his four children, and his new daughter-in-law. 


Dan Morrow

Dan Morrow is a long-time Redding resident and graduate of both Shasta High School and Shasta College.  After completing AA degrees in both Engineering and Electronics, he transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.  Dan spent the next two years completing his Master’s Degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo while conducting research and development work at NASA Dryden Research Center.  His career launched with a research position at Santa Barbara Research Center.  After returning to Redding in 1985 with his young family, Dan worked as Test Engineer with Pacific Western Systems, Inc. and advanced to Director of Engineering in 1988, then President in 1998. In 2000, Sof-Tek Integrators, Inc. was formed with Dan presiding as President and CEO. Redding based Sof-Tek Integrators Inc., operates three divisions.  The Assembly Division designs and manufactures electronic equipment used in semiconductor manufacturing environments. The UL Panel Division provides contract manufacturing services, and the Test and Measurement Division (dba Op-Test) provides patented color measurement solutions used in the solid state lighting manufacturing process.In addition to his activities in the tech sector, Dan was also active in higher education at Shasta College teaching Technology and Engineering courses. He is currently an Adjunct Lecturer at Simpson University, and is an investor and mentor to several start-up companies.


Josh Bradshaw

Josh Bradshaw is a product strategy consultant and advisor for technology companies in Silicon Valley. He specializes in discovering monetizable value generated by innovative solutions.  He is also staff member for Venture Capital Roundtable, a Silicon Valley angel group, serves as an advisor for two startups and volunteers with VLAB, the MIT Enterprise Forum in the Bay Area.  Mr. Bradshaw holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from San Jose State University and an International MBA in Strategy and Marketing from Melbourne Business School.  


Matt Morgan

Matt Morgan, born and raised in Redding, California, has always been an entrepreneur at heart, launching several businesses fresh out of high school. His passion for technology and marketing has led him through several adventures with home based businesses, marketing for Simpson University, and navigating the corporate world. Today he serves at the CEO & Founder of Optimize Worldwide, Inc., Matt launched Optimize four years ago with zero startup capital out of his bedroom and today it stands as the largest web and online marketing company in the Redding area. Matt and his wife Holly call Redding home are raising their two year old daughter Haley here. Matt loves Redding and gives back to his community through several hundred hours of volunteer work each year.

Brad Ledford

Brad Ledford is a freelance consultant for Web and mobile application product development. Since 1998, Brad has worked in many capacities in the design, development, and delivery of Web and mobile applications and systems. Specific skills include MVP planning and execution, Agile development processes, product management, Node.js application development, continuous delivery and release automation, marketing automation and tracking, SEO analysis, and UX design. Also, developer recruiting and team building (a.k.a. handing out beer).
Brad lives in Chico with his wife and three wonderful, exuberant children, a Labradoodle, and an undeclared number of chickens.


Dr. Colleen

Dr. Colleen Robb serves as an assistant professor of entrepreneurship for California State University, Chico. For several years she taught in Nova Southeastern University’s MBA programs and for the Keller Graduate School of Management. For three years she served as the Business Development Director for Bold Thinking, an entrepreneurship education/consulting company. She also worked in South Africa for Oklahoma State University’s Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Program as the lead faculty advisor where she coached and instructed student teams working with historically disadvantaged entrepreneurs in Cape Town. She has over fourteen years of experience in the nonprofit sector where she worked in various roles for organizations such as MedShare International, the University of Cincinnati, and Best Buddies International. Most notably, Dr. Robb was the founding associate director for Florida International University’s (FIU) Pino Entrepreneurship Center where she was responsible for developing both academic and outreach programs, general management of all programs related to the Center and its five institutes, fundraising, and teaching classes and workshops. She also developed and managed FIU’s annual business plan competition, spearheaded a social entrepreneurship track, and coached hundreds of entrepreneurs on their business plans and pitches for raising capital.

Justin Miller

After cutting his teeth in the world of business banking for five years, Justin Miller joined the economic development team at Innovate Northstate and in the past two years has produced dozens of successful public and private events, mentored and coached 100+ small businesses and startups and completely overhauled the organization’s sponsorship and partnership program. Justin's is the heart of our Capital Network which pairs investor ready startups with interested investors.  He is a master at helping develop pitch presentations!  This year Justin joined Small Biz Triage as the partnership director and is knee-deep in producing two major economic development focused events in California and Idaho, as well as prepping for the 2nd Annual Food Biz Road Trip which will support food industry hubs coast to coast, in nearly 20 communities nationwide.

Claudia is a senior marketing professional with proven experience in marketing strategy, content marketing, go-to-market planning, product launch, channel optimization, and inbound and outbound marketing   With over 10 years B2B marketing experience, Claudia has led award-winning marketing campaigns and introduced software solutions across borders.  As senior marketing manager of content strategy at Thomson Reuters, Claudia oversaw content marketing initiatives, both internal and external, across multiple platforms and formats to drive sales, engagement, retention, and leads. Prior to this role, Claudia served as a global product marketing manager were she focused on product marketing and product launch, with an emphasis on effective go-to-market strategies and execution. Claudia started her career with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Linda Fitzgerald

 Linda Fitzgerald is the owner of Betteron in Redding, where she helps local individuals and businesses ‘turn their better on.’ (www.betteron.net)  She currently contracts with ZeroDesktop (previously known as NComputing), where she provides financial analysis and employee development.  She also contracts with JEDI a non-profit out of Mt. Shasta.  Linda just taught JEDI’s Entrepreneur class (It’s Your Business) which wrapped up in mid-November.  Linda is currently working on creating seminars to deliver locally.  Linda spent 7 years at Microsoft, 7 years at Simpson Timber Company and 8 years at NComputing.  Linda has a Bachelors of Science in Management from the Santa Clara University.


Erich Roehl

Erich Roehl is a Managing Partner at Venntis, LLC, responsible for Community & Business Development. He was a executive project manager, business consultant and corporate executive with IBM for 27 years and Executive Pastor at Neighborhood Church of Redding for 7 years. He married his bride in 1977 and has 3 beautiful daughters, 3 son-in-laws and 4 grandchildren. In his free time he enjoys fishing, racquetball and flying planes.

Sydney is a community leader and strategist with an award-winning background in sales and business development. Sydney has been named an LGBT Technology Leader by The White House, Office of Science and Technology Policy and is a TEDx Speaker on creating innovation within communities. She has worked as the Head of Business at Audacy, a space satellite startup. After founding her own token launch firm, she now leads strategy on tokenized projects for Token Foundry at ConsenSys and a co-founder at Crypto NYC, a blockchain coworking space based in Manhattan.
