Welcome to the First Ever Startup Weekend UNR!

Startup Weekend is a 54-hour weekend event, during which groups of developers, engineers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more pitch ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas, and work to develop a working prototype, demo, or presentation by Sunday evening. Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts and winners are announced. Students learn how to turn ideas into tangible businesses, products, apps, and websites, through real world entrepreneurial experience.
  • Pitch: Anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback.
  • Form: Teams form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote).
  • Build: A 54-hour frenzy of business modeling, coding, designing, and validating.
  • Present: A presentation in front of local entrepreneurial leaders
What you get for attending:
  • All meals are provided (see schedule)
  • A free .co domain name for 1 year
  • $300 in credits to Google Cloud
  • Awesome coaching by founders and experienced startup members
  • A network of new developer, designer, engineer & entrepreneur friends who are excited starting up a new venture.
Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Can I buy a ticket if I am a non-UNR student? Currently tickets are available for enrolled UNR, TMCC and K-12 students, but email us at renouni@startupweekend.org if it is a unique situation.
  • I'm UNR faculty or staff, can I come check out the event? Absolutely! To register, please email us at renouni@startupweekend.org.
  • Do I have to have an idea? No! Get ready to be inspired and find a idea to be a part of.
  • Do I have to have a team? No! If you have a team, great. If not, we will arrange teams on Friday night. But please no teams or ideas that are far along the development path. We like to start with fresh ideas.
