Successful edtech startups/problem solvers all have one thing in common: they understand their users' needs and are constantly adapting to meet them. During this hands-on workshop, you'll learn tips and tricks for interviewing a potential user in education and mapping out their needs. You'll also hear from a real educator/entrepreneur.

Sam Woodard
Cofounder and CEO, Mathchat

Sam is a math teacher and engineer. His team placed first at Startup Weekend Education Seattle. After interviewing many teachers, he pivoted and created Mathchat which was recently accepted into ImagineK12. Sam will share successes and challenges he faced when interviewing users.


Suzy Monroe
Founder, TinkerEd

Suzy is a teacher from Ireland currently living in San Francisco. She founded a company called TinkerEd which connects EdTech founders with educators willing to give feedback at various stages of product development. She will share some learnings she's gathered from facilitating these connections over the last year.


Sam Chaudhary
CEO @ ClassDojo

Sam is the co-founder and CEO of ClassDojo. Sam holds a Double First-class degree in economics from the University of Cambridge, and taught high school after graduating, instead of doing a PhD. He subsequently worked in the education arm of consultancy firm McKinsey & Co in London. Sam and his co-founder Liam founded ClassDojo in 2011 to help teachers, parents and students improve classroom behavior and build positive learning habits and character strengths. Since then, ClassDojo has become one of the world’s fastest-growing education technology companies, currently being used by millions of teachers and students in more than 30 countries.

John Baldo
Product Manager

John is the program manager of Startup Weekend Education where he develops resources and programs to help anyone engage in entrepreneurship to solve problems in education. He is a software engineer by trade and recently worked on several K-12 edtech products at Amplify. He briefly worked as a Pre-Algebra and Geometry Teacher. His current side hustle is building community in hometown of Oakland.
