Victor Moreira
CTO @ {Carpe Data

Technology fanatic!

While enjoying the beautiful views in Santa Barbara, I graduated from University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) in Electrical and Computer Engineer with high honors.

In 2008, I joined NozaSearch team, a local startup that created the world's biggest database of philanthropical data. Nozasearch was acquired in 2010 by a public company, Blackbaud CRM.

On the hills of acquisition, I co-founded HG Data (now HG Insights), a Santa Barbara startup. HG Insights maps the connections between business: Who buys from whom, and who buys what. As the CTO, I led the technology development and product creation. HG Insights grew along the big data and technology revolution and disrupted market. HG grew to 80 employees, with engineers in 3 countries.

I'm interested in technology in general, with focus in high-end computers and electronics, and brand new inventions. I'm an avid lover of cars and racing, and I like to pretend I'm a professional racing driver myself.

All my free time is dedicated to my puppy: The Penny, who is the star of the show!

Annette Shimada

Annette is a San Francisco Bay Area expatriate happily living in Santa Barbara for more than a dozen years. She launched Kickstart Consulting in the late 90s, well before “Kickstarter” was a thing. Annette heads up a diverse team of experts in corporate messaging, product launch, thought leadership, media and analyst relations, journalism and media training. The team works with technology innovators delivering solutions across a range of industries, including retail, biotech, hospitality, higher education, architecture, healthcare, energy and others.

Prior to launching Kickstart, Annette was director of corporate communications at Netherlands-based Baan Company and drove a cohesive global program following the company's IPO. Earlier in her career, she managed PR, advertising and events for LA-based clients in consumer products and retail.

Annette is proud to say that Kickstart is a referral-based agency that has survived and thrived through a few tech bubbles and bursts. And, while she focuses on early stage companies who tend to get snapped up by the likes of Oracle, BMC, Amazon and Corning, the firm also worked directly with icons such as IBM, Cisco and Siebel Systems. Her team loves coming to Santa Barbara and the surrounding wine country to enjoy a bit of our good life!
