Review the Startup Weekend format, get feedback on your 60 second pitches, meet other participants and eat some pizza

Friday April 17th

Eat food, share ideas, practice pitches, get to know fellow participants

Welcome & Speakers
Review agenda for the weekend and introduce speakers, coaches, and community leaders

Pitches Start
Optionally line up to give your pitch

Form Teams
Teams start forming and discussing ideas

Begin Work
Start to formalize teams and take an inventory of skills. Be honest, and direct about what resources and skills are needed for the weekend. You may stay and work as late as the venue will allow

Co-founder of Fast Company magazine, entrepreneur, business man and former candidate for the Democratic nomination for Governor  

Tom Lopez

Tom Lopez is a serial entrepreneur, having founded, successfully commercialized and sold three companies in the software sector.   With a background in advertising with J. Walter Thompson, Co, he was recruited into hi-tech as VP of Product Development with Activision, Inc., helping to take the company public in 1983.  He then started Cytation, Inc., which produced the first writer’s reference on CD-ROM.  This company was sold to Microsoft in 1986, Tom became VP of Microsoft,  and the product was released as Microsoft Bookshelf.   Tom co-founded Mammoth Micro Productions in 1988.  This company developed multimedia operating system layers for major PC OEMs like Sony, Fujitsu, JVC, Olivetti and IBM.  It also created the first interactive multimedia magazines with Newsweek Interactive, Car and Driver Buyer’s Guide, etc.  Mammoth was sold to The Washington Post Company in 1994.    Tom co-founded MSHOW, an early web-conferencing company in 1996 which was sold to InterCall in 2000.  For the past decade, Tom has been a Strategic Advisor for and Investor in information technology startup companies.

Sally Corning

Sally Corning has over 20 years of experience in evaluating investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, structuring transactions and raising equity and debt capital in both the public and private markets. She has worked in investment banking at Dean Witter Reynolds, Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse First Boston. Most recently, Ms. Corning worked for 13 years in Credit Suisse First Boston’s Private Placement Group, where she led the evaluation of numerous companies and fund sponsors and structured, marketed and executed over 40 private transactions. Ms. Corning has an MBA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and a BSBA in Finance from Georgetown University.Ms. Corning is a Board Member of Sun Mountain Capital portfolio companies nanoMR and xF Technologies as well as a Board Observer for Sun Mountain’s investment in Sundrop Fuels. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the New Mexico Venture Capital Association.

Kathleen Gardenswartz

Experienced professional marketer and expert at value proposition design, Kathleen manages ABQid’s curriculum and marketing efforts in the Albuquerque community. She has either been directly involved with numerous startups or consulted with them on clarifying their value proposition and whom they serve. 

Coaches and Mentors

Brian DuBoff

Brian DuBoff is the Director of the Santa Fe Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and has worked in the field since 1999. He holds a Master of Science in Administration from St. Michael’s College in Vermont and a Bachelor of Science in Consumer Studies and Small Business Marketing from the University of Vermont. Brian has also been an entrepreneur and has great interest in sustainability, technology and all things digital. 

Nicholas Seet

Nicholas has been a serial-entrepreneur since his first startup concept was funded and he left his software-development position at Deloitte Consulting.  Since that time he has worked to refine his business skills,  serving at different times as CTO, CEO, and Founder of Auditude.  A part of Auditude (called IntoNow) was spun-off in 2010 and was acquired by Yahoo in 2011.  In November that same year, Auditude was acquired by Adobe Systems.

Nicholas received his MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management in 2005.  While there he participated in and won the UCLA Knapp Business Plan Competition as well as the Rice University Business Plan Competition, receiving over $1 million in funding and prizes.
