Speakers


David Brown
Co-CEO of Techstars

David is a serial entrepreneur who has founded three startups and been involved with two others. He is one of the original founders of Pinpoint Technologies, Inc. which is now part of ZOLL Medical Corporation and provides solutions to the emergency medical services market. He was President of the company from founding through over $50M per year in revenue and over 250 people.

David later co-founded Techstars along with David Cohen, Brad Feld, and Jared Polis. He has been an investor and advisor to Techstars since inception. In 2013, he joined Techstars in a more active role as Managing Partner.

David has a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. As a ski instructor in the past, David still enjoys hitting the slopes on a good powder day.


Greg Horowitt
Chief Evangelist & Co-Founder, T2 VENTURE CREATION

Greg is the co-founder and Managing Director of T2 Venture Capital, a seed and early stage venture fund and advisory services firm focused on high impact innovation in the technology and healthcare sectors. He has lead T2’s involvement in portfolio companies; Somark Innovations, Biomatrica, Independa, GroundMetrics, and AutoPoint Software (sold to SRS Solutions). He is also the co-author of the bestselling book, ‘the Rainforest: the Secret to Building the Next Silicon Valley’ which examines the dynamics and drivers of innovation ecosystems; drawn from hands-on experience and insights gathered while architecting the innovation ecosystems of more than a dozen countries around the world.  He is a co-founder of the Global Innovation Summit, co-founder of the Rainforest Architects Program, and a co-developer of the Rainforest Index.  Greg is a Kauffman Fellow, a member of a select program to groom leaders of the venture capital industry.  He is an adviser, speaker, and consultant to development organizations including the World Bank, US State Department, OECD, USAID, Aspen Institute, and the National Academies of Science in addition to his work advising governments around the world on topics of economic development, venture capital formation, and innovation policy.  He is currently engaged in designing unique, breakthrough models for measuring the health of innovation systems based on dynamic flows of talent, capital, and knowledge.  


Andrew Yang
Founder & CEO Venture for America

Andrew is the Founder and CEO of Venture for America, and has worked in startups and early-stage growth companies as a founder or executive for more than twelve years. He was the CEO and President of Manhattan GMAT, a test prep company that was acquired by the Washington Post/Kaplan in 2009. He has also served as the co-founder of an Internet company and an executive at a health care software startup. Andrew has been selected by the White House as a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship and a Champion of Change for his work with Venture for America. He is the author of “Smart People Should Build Things,” published by Harper Business (excerpts here and at Amazon). He was named one of Fast Company’s “100 Most Creative People in Business,” and has appeared on CNBC, Morning Joe, Fox News, TIME, Techcrunch, the Wall St. Journal, and more. He is a graduate of Columbia Law and Brown University and lives in New York City with his wife and son.

John McDermott

John McDermott is managing principal of McDermott Advisory Services and engages as both an advisor and investor in information technology start-ups and growth phase companies. His current investment and advisory work is focused in Enterprise Software, Cyber Security and information technology intensive Business Process Services. John also serves on the Board of ABQid, New Mexico’s only curriculum driven, seed-funded business accelerator.   In addition to his work in the private sector, John currently chairs the New Mexico Finance Authority, the state’s vehicle for delivering low cost financing to New Mexico communities.  With assets of more than $2B and AAA credit rating, the NMFA is viewed as a key resource in state economic development.   Before retuning to New Mexico in 2012, John was Xerox Corporation’s Chief Strategy Officer and head of Corporate Development.  John led corporate strategy, acquisitions and divestitures during this transformational period at Xerox.  John’s operational responsibilities also included leadership of Xerox’s information technology organization   Prior to joining Xerox, John spent nearly 15 years at Marakon Associates, an international management-consulting firm, where he was a partner and led the technology industry practice.   He provided Fortune 500 clients in North America, Europe and Asia with support on business strategy, operations improvement and organizational design, primarily in the technology and telecommunications industries.   Before earning his MBA, John began his career as an entrepreneur, building several small, successful companies.  He is a graduate of the Yale University School of Management and continues to be regularly involved with the school.

Nicholas Seet

Nicholas has been a serial-entrepreneur since his first startup concept was funded and he left his software-development position at Deloitte Consulting.  Since that time he has worked to refine his business skills,  serving at different times as CTO, CEO, and Founder of Auditude.  A part of Auditude (called IntoNow) was spun-off in 2010 and was acquired by Yahoo in 2011.  In November that same year, Auditude was acquired by Adobe Systems.

Nicholas received his MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management in 2005.  While there he participated in and won the UCLA Knapp Business Plan Competition as well as the Rice University Business Plan Competition, receiving over $1 million in funding and prizes.

Brian DuBoff

Brian DuBoff is the Director of the Santa Fe Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and has worked in the field since 1999. He holds a Master of Science in Administration from St. Michael’s College in Vermont and a Bachelor of Science in Consumer Studies and Small Business Marketing from the University of Vermont. Brian has also been an entrepreneur and has great interest in sustainability, technology and all things digital.
