Event Judges


Mike Moyer

Mike is a Partner in Cairncross & Hempelmann’s Corporate practice group. He focuses on supporting growing technology companies, and handles a wide variety of complex corporate finance, securities and commercial transactions, including public and private equity and debt offerings, mergers and acquisitions, licensing transactions, and the formation of partnerships, strategic alliances and joint ventures. In recent years, he has worked extensively in the clean technology sector and currently represents some of the region’s most promising clean technology and sustainable industry companies.


Leo Shklovskii

Leo is responsible for the overall technology and user experience strategy and process for EnergySavvy. Under his leadership, the EnergySavvy product has received rave reviews and considerable imitation. He worked as a developer focused on web applications at Amazon.com, Redfin and D.E. Shaw. He created novel and effective data visualization at Amazon and performed critical architectural and scaling work at Redfin and Amazon. Leo loves to absorb new technologies, push boundaries and play ultimate frisbee. Leo holds a BS in computer science from Yale University.


Jimmy Jia

Jimmy Jia, LEED(R) Green Associate, is CEO and founder of Distributed Energy Management where he helps businesses strategically manage their utility budget. Jimmy holds a BS and MS in Material Science and Engineering from MIT and an MBA from the University of Oxford. He is the Chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum of the Northwest and a faculty member at the Bainbridge Graduate Institute where he is leading the Sustainable Energy Solutions Certificate. By understanding a client’s needs and goals, he helps tailor a program that minimizes consumption while maximizing growth. He has previously worked at Olympus as the eastern New England Territory Manager and at Panasonic as an Associate Engineer. He is a frequent speaker on the Smart Grid and Intelligent Buildings throughout the Pacific Northwest.


Craig Husa

Craig Husa most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of 3TIER, Inc (www.3TIER.com). 3TIER was acquired by Vaisala, a global leader in environmental and industrial measurement, in December 2013. Craig previously served as the CEO of multiple innovative, break-through companies including NeuralIQ (CounterTack), General Software (acquired by Phoenix Technologies Ltd.), and Healia (acquired by Meredith Corporation, NYSE: MDP). Previously, he founded CourtLink Corporation (acquired by LexisNexis) and helped grow it into the leading provider of electronic court case information to legal, corporate, and government markets. Early in his career, Craig served as a U.S. Naval Officer onboard a nuclear powered submarine. Craig sits on the board of the Washington Clean Technology Alliance. He earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School, an MS-equivalent in Nuclear Engineering from the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power School and a BS, with distinction, in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.

Elpizo Choi

"Elpizo is an aero-turned-software engineer who passionately believes in the power of technology to improve lives. After graduating with a masters in Aerospace Engineering (emphasis on focus on renewable energy and alternative fuels), he taught himself programming and has been a part of the Seattle startup scene ever since. He’s currently Founder and CTO at Weave, where he’s working on revolutionizing the way we professionally network. Prior to Weave, he was a founding member at Cut Media, and an early employee at BuzzLabs (acquired by CityGrid). On his spare time, Elpizo enjoys playing soccer, hacking on side projects, and rooting for the Seahawks, the Sounders, the Mariners, and the SuperSonics (RIP)."


Bryce Counts

Bryce is an associate in Cairncross & Hempelmann’s Corporate practice group. He focuses on counseling software and clean technology startups in a variety of complex strategic transactions, including private debt and equity financings, mergers and acquisitions, licensing transactions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.


Burton Hamner

Before launching his own startup, Hydrobee, this year, Burton founded, grew and sold Hydrovolts Inc. which makes hydrokinetic turbines for canals and big water systems. He has worked in "clean tech" since 1991, and traveled around the world promoting clean manufacturing through industry assessments, management training, speaking and publishing, policy analysis and lots of factory visits. His main clients were the US Agency for International Development and the Asian Development Bank. Burton also taught in the MBA programs for the Asian Institute of Management in Manila, and the Universidad del Pacifico in Lima.


Troy Ma

"Troy has always been passionate about startups and working on crazy ideas. He took the plunge last year by forming a startup last year and loved it ever since. His team just completed the Techstars program, so if you have any questions, make sure to ask! Before this venture, he worked on the team that lead the product development of Bing.com. In his spare time, he enjoys trips with friends, board games and trying out new recipes to cook."


Zack McMurry

Zack is the head of Project Development at C/e Solutions. His primary responsibility is to manage the development of technologies from inception to commercialization. C/e Solutions is a R&D company focused on developing economically viable renewable energy solutions. Zack has been the lead for scale-up and technoeconomic analysis of C/e’s new technologies as well as developing their IP portfolio for future licensing. Prior to working for C/e Zack worked in the biotech industry for a contract manufacturer called CMC which specialized in biological drug therapies process development and manufacturing. He has worked on over a dozen different protein/antibodies products varying from phase 1 to early commercial manufacturing. Zack graduated from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.


Blythe Mackey

Hakon Verespej
Growth Hacker at Madrona

Hakon is part of the team at Madrona Venture Group, a Seattle-based venture capital firm, where he works with portfolio companies to accelerate their growth. He’s participated in and organized dozens of hackathons. Prior to Madrona, Hakon was a software engineer at Microsoft and at a software startup.
