Don't Stop Believin' ! - 4th edition of EuroSeattle Startup Weekend !

This year's mascot for Startup Weekend EuroSeattle is Bigfoot, a mythological ape-like creature that is said to inhabit forests in the Pacific Northwest... Starting a company in just 54 hours is not a myth! Join us for a unique startup experience where you'll learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur. You may very well launch your own company and meet, not Bigfoot, but your next co-founder at the end of the weekend! All that, fueled with delicious European food!

  • Friday night: 
    60-second pitches that result in the formation of small teams around the best, most viable concepts. We hope you’ll pitch, but definitely not required!
  • Saturday and Sunday: Work days! Teams focus on user research, customer development, validating their ideas and building prototypes with the help of experienced coaches from the entrepreneurial world. You’re welcome to stay and work as long as the venue will allow!
  • Sunday afternoon: Teams demo their products and receive valuable feedback from a panel of expert judges. Winning teams take home a grab bag of great tools to help launch their company!

Dr. Matt Wood
GM, Artificial Intelligence, Amazon Web Services

Dr. Matt Wood is part of the technical leadership team at Amazon Web Services, pulling from over a decade of expertise in distributed systems, architecture, web-scale analytics, big data, machine learning and high performance computing to help customers bring their ideas to life through technology. After medical school, Dr. Wood completed his PhD in machine learning and bioinformatics, joined Cornell as a research fellow, and contributed to the next generation DNA sequencing platform at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Since joining Amazon Web Services in early 2010, he has played a role in introducing many significant new features and services to customers on the AWS Cloud, including AWS Lambda, Amazon Kinesis and Amazon Machine Learning.

Rebecca Lovell
Director, Create33

With more than 20 years of management and operating experience, and over a decade running and supporting startups, Rebecca currently serves as Director at Create33, a founder center conceived by Madrona Venture Group. She was previously Director of the City of Seattle's Office of Economic Development, having progressed through leadership roles in the office, including serving as the City's first Startup Advocate. Prior to joining the City, she was GeekWire's first Chief Business Officer, Executive Director of the Northwest Entrepreneur Network, and Program Director of the Alliance of Angels.  Having received her MBA from the UW Foster school of business in 2006, she has served on their Employer Advisory Board since 2008, and is currently an instructor in entrepreneurship for their Technology Management MBA Program.  She has been a committed Techstars mentor since their Seattle launch in 2010, is the Board Chair for the national Center of American Entrepreneurship, and was recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of the top 100 women in tech and as "Do Gooder of the Year." 

Tomas Vetrovsky
Sr. Director of Product Management, Vmware

For the last 20 years, Tomas has been helping companies large and small to define their product strategy, improve critical features, create business plans and other aspects needed for a successful product launch. He served on advisory boards for HP (printer division), Celio (mobility) and Sunnysoft (enterprise mobile apps) and advised companies as part of the Silicon Valley based Plug&Play accelerator. He established development centers for 2 different companies in the Seattle region and is in the process of doing the same for the EUC Division of VMware. Tomas made a handful of investments as an Angel investor and is always looking to learn more about what makes others successful, in business and life. 
When he is not spending time outdoors with his kids, either skiing or biking, he loves to be on solo adventure motorcycle rides, scuba diving and dreams of racing in the Paris-Dakar rally.

Michel Gaultier
Operations and Strategy Consultant

More than thirty five years of active involvement with technology startups in western Europe and the Pacific coast from Vancouver BC to San Diego.  Responsible for finance and business development at Kerstech, Inc. from Portland, OR., a company dedicated to extend the battery driving range of electric vehicles. Advises the founding team of ApteSecurity, based in Bangalore. Was the co-founder and CEO of QPlus, a French company developing instrumentation and equipment to modify semiconductor surfaces at the nanometer level. Was the co-founder of AmiSoft, a pioneering collaborative ERP enterprise application for small and mid-size printing companies, based in Portland. Was President of AT&E Europe in the late 80s. From 1980 to 1984, worked for one of the largest European financial institution in its private equity department, as a member of the team spearheading venture capital investments both in Europe and the US.  Headed a portfolio company manufacturing electronic keyboards with a proprietary technology.

Coaches and Mentors

Marion Chereau
Graphic Designer & Visual Branding, Nordstrom

Marion is a Senior Print Designer at Nordstrom Headquarter in Seattle Washington.
She studied in Paris and graduated with a Master Degree in Visual Communication and Graphic Design from ESAG Pennighen.
Marion worked for 6 years within the Art Direction at Hermes-Paris, before moving to the United States in 2009. She is passionate about Art and Fashion and love to explore new supports of expressions through Artists partnerships and cultural events.
She is currently in charge of developing prints for Soft Accessories, Home and Lingerie at Nordstrom.
She has been working as creative consultant and graphic designer on multiple brand identities in France and US for diverse start-ups and clothing companies.

David Sanguin
Vice President at Pcubed

Since July 2014, David Sanguin is Pcubed's Vice President running Pacific Northwest Region, based in Bellevue, WA. Previously, he was in Toulouse, France working as a Division Director for Alten Group (Pcubed parent company), overseeing 250 consultants specialized in Project Management.                                                                                             

David has a long history of providing consulting services around project management. Natural intrapreneur, he created and developed Business Units for Alten in several countries (France, Spain, Germany and USA), he is also found of entrepreneurship. He created his own Consulting Company in his early career and more recently was part of the team which won the EuroSeattle Startup 2016 week-end. He was also the Chairman of French American Business Innovation Awards hold in May 2016, is a  Board member of the FACC High Tech & Innovation committee and organizer of the event “Start-up with a French flair!” in December 2016.

He holds a degree in mechanical engineering and speaks French, English and German.
David loves spending time with his 3 daughters and scuba diving all around the world !

Ian Coleman
Founder of LifeBites

Ian is a dietitian turned software engineer. As the veteran of multiple startups (,, IBS Ireland,, he has developed a keen insight into startup strategy and an uncomfortably close familiarity with the common pitfalls and startup mistakes. 

Recipient of multiple nominations, grants and awards Ian hopes to now give back to the startup community by assisting entrepreneurs with their pitches, whether they like it or not.

Karolina Haraldsdottir
Head of Digital Video Games

Karolina is the Head of Digital Video Games at Amazon, leading the team that manages the sale of digital video games content on Prior to her work at Amazon she worked at a small consulting firm, Treacy & Company, focused on implementing growth systems in organizations to guide companies through the strategy, innovation, and execution cycles necessary to deliver growth.

Greg Bulmash
Technical Evangelist – Login with Amazon

Greg Bulmash is a Technical Evangelist for Login with Amazon, the founder/lead for Seattle CoderDojo (a volunteer group that teaches children STEM skills), and Registration Director for the NewTech Seattle and NewTech Eastside meetups. He has been invited to technical conferences around the world to tell fairy tales, talk about robots, discuss managing user identities, and show how to make it rain flaming sheep in Minecraft.
He can advise on developer marketing, developer relations, technical communication, user identity, and creative issues.

Paolo Sciarra
Founder and Facebook Funnel Expert at PS Digital

Paolo is Founder and Digital Expert at PS Digital in Seattle, WA.

He studied in Milan (ITA) and graduated with a Master in Business Management from the Universita' Cattolica Del Sacro Cuore.

Before launching PS Digital, Paolo built and led marketing teams at Mona Labs and Sensoria Inc (formerly Heapsylon) gaining extraordinary experience in early stage startups, go-to-market strategies, growth and product marketing.

Currently he helps small and medium companies to grow their business with the power of Facebook advertising and funnel optimization.

Binu Reghunathan
Co-Founder and Co-CEO at extraSlice

While I was growing up chaos was normal - every day, everywhere. I grew up learning to look at things in new ways to get an organized view and efficiently navigate through them to produce desired results. 
I still continue to do that …
Driven by technology, my environment has changed, the way I think and do things have changed. Still I continue to be attracted by the challenges presented by chaos and inefficiencies and fully enjoy being a problem solver.

Pulkit Maheshwari
Software Development Engineer – Login with Amazon

I have been working as a Software Developer for Login with Amazon for over 2 years and have been fortunate enough to have played a part in building an amazing product. A University of Southern California alumni, I lived my student life in Los Angeles before deciding to move to Seattle to work at Amazon. An avid reader and a keen learner, I am always up for discussions around managing user identity, home automation and what makes great products great in general!

Alex Stoklas
Customer Experience Management Expert, Microsoft

Alex has extensive experience in consumer marketing and customer relationship management for high-tech and services companies around the globe.  Prior to joining Microsoft in 2013, where he currently helps implement marketing in customer service, he spent over 10 years working for T-Mobile subsidiaries in Europe and the USA. He successfully led teams there focused on the development and implementation of strategies to grow customer base value. His responsibilities included lead gen., customer retention, cross-and up-selling, segmentation and direct marketing to name a few. Alex started his professional career at a wireless start-up, running local marketing and sales campaigns to drive subscriber acquisition. His experience with subscription-based business models (wireless, cloud) taught him about the importance of life-cycle management and made him an advocate that 'customer retention starts at acquisition.'
Alex grew up in Austria and moved to the USA four years ago. He enjoys living in Seattle and loves to explore the Washington mountains and lakes together with his wife and two kids.

Gregor Schmidt
Creative Technologist

Gregor is the Co-Founder and Digital Barista at ESPRESSO, a highly caffeinated global digital media agency based in Seattle. ESPRESSO specializes in providing small to mid-size businesses and emerging technologies and startups across the US, Europe and Asia with the digital media impact usually reserved for bigger brands.  He is also a managing partner at digital agency S5i in Seattle, and a co-founder of The Cyber Twins.
Gregor has been a digital innovator and disruptor for over 25 years. After earning degrees in visual communication and marketing in California he moved to Seattle in 1990, and has been involved in a number of startups, creative and advertising agencies, and digital media firms. His passion and focus is to help brands to rise above the digital noise.
In addition Gregor is a consultant on digital media innovation and adaptive design, software development and usability, and information architecture for companies including Amazon, Adobe Systems, Google and Microsoft. Considered a digital disruption innovator he is also a frequent speaker at industry and digital media events and regularly contributes to leading industry blogs and publications.
Born in Germany, Gregor has lived in Switzerland, Italy, England, Canada and the US. He is married to renowned Japanese photographer and designer Hiroko “Coco” Saita. The couple and their two cats Goma and Pixel live in Pioneer Square and are very active in their neighborhood as well as the Seattle arts community. He plans to continue having way too much fun in the digital world, preferably without killing himself.

Jonathan Gagliardoni
Cofounder of SHOP

Jonathan is a Cofounder of SHOP, a retail blockchain protocol supporting the value exchanges between Shoppers and Brands.

Jonathan is a proven retail and eCommerce tech innovator and educator who has been Head of Product Management and Product Development for software and physical goods throughout his career in early stage and enterprise retail companies. Jonathan facilitates strategy around the execution of the value exchanges between Brands, Shoppers, and Developers through building the SHOP community and engaging with the broader retail and blockchain communities.

Jonathan has deep roots with the University of Washington, holding a degree in Business Entrepreneurship and works with students in the UW MBA and Electrical Engineering Programs. Jonathan is also an instructor at the University of Washington for Software Product Management and leading efforts to develop a Blockchain course for the University.

David Valpey
Data Scientist

My background includes system administration, database design, software development, linguistics, and anthropology. I worked in system administration (Linux servers) and database design in Germany at a small web hosting company. I recently completed a data science program at Galvanize in Seattle where I focused on integrating machine learning and linguistics in natural language processing. I am also very active in the local developer community, teaching at Learn to Code and presenting my own work at MeetUp events.

Marion Desmazières
International Expansion Lead, Amazon Alexa

Marion is a tech business developer based in Seattle, WA. She manages international expansion of developer programs for Alexa, the voice service powering Amazon's Echo devices. Before joining Amazon about four years ago, Marion coordinated the 2012 Global Startup Battle and managed partner relations for Startup Weekend in Seattle. She holds a Master's in Business Management from EDHEC Business School and an MBA in Technology Commercialization from the University of Alberta. A Startup Weekend veteran, Marion has facilitated 20+ events in France, Canada, the US, Algeria and Morocco.

Ewelina Kieley
Founder and CEO at Makapen Inc

Ewelina is an entrepreneur helping startups build prototypes and MVPs with less waste and less upfront costs. She began her career in biochemistry research and later cofounded a bakery and cafe in Atlanta Georgia. Once the cafe was up and running, she moved to Seattle to continue working with early stage businesses. At Makapen Inc, she supports non-technical founders in the process of building out their web products.
