Launch a Business in 54 Hours!

In just 54 hours, you can turn your idea into a business. That might seem crazy but several Summit County businesses have already been launched in one weekend.  

How? It’s called Startup Weekend and was launched in Colorado to give entrepreneurs the motivation, the support and the resources to take their business from idea to prototype to full business plan in 54 hours. Now, it’s your chance. Summit County Startup Weekend returns Nov. 13-15 to Frisco, Colo. and will be based out of ELEVATE coSPACE and EVO3 Workspace, two coworking spaces in downtown Frisco.

Friday November 13th

Anna Ewing
Executive Director, Colorado Innovation Network

Anna Ewing is Executive Director of the Colorado Innovation Network (COIN), a physical and virtual network of global leaders that encourages relationships to support the innovation ecosystem, grow companies, and create jobs. COIN is a catalyst for economic prosperity by partnering with government, business, and civil society to foster collaboration around global ideas, talent, capital, and the entrepreneurial spirit. It is a privately funded organization housed within Colorado’s Office of Economic Development & International Trade (OEDIT), of which Anna also serves as Chief Operating Officer. An influential and versatile leader, Anna has two decades of progressive strategic and financial experience having spent a good portion of her career in creative, evolving environments during periods of significant change. She is passionate about taking great ideas and turning them into great results, and about furthering the Colorado innovation story. Anna has extensive experience in change management, developing and implementing strategic objectives, and leading teams to drive impact, and is particularly inclined towards fostering partnerships and collaboration among diverse stakeholders. Prior to joining COIN and OEDIT in February 2015, Anna was Chief Financial Officer at Vodafone Americas where she spent the last six years. With responsibilities including financial oversight of the entirety of Vodafone's US business, she lead the finance organization through Vodafone’s disposal of its 45% interest in Verizon Wireless, the 3rd largest deal in all of corporate history. She served on the US board of directors and as treasurer of the Vodafone Americas Foundation, supporting organizations that use technology to improve lives, stimulate innovation, and advance global development. Prior to Vodafone, Anna spent a number of years in progressive management and financial positions in several dynamic industries; first in marketing & advertising with the Omnicom Group Inc. network including TracyLocke and The Integer Group, and then in resort management with Intrawest. She began her career at Price Waterhouse LLP.
Anna graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and holds CPA and CGMA licenses. A native of Colorado, she is a travel and adventure enthusiast and enjoys the great outdoors with her husband and two young children. 

Rich Staats

Rich is best described as a Full Stack Marketer. He has a deep passion for marketing and technology, and feels most comfortable when liaising those two disciplines.

  • Co-founder of Signature Colorado, a marketplace that sells commemorative products which capture the experiential beauty of Colorado.
  • Founder of Secret Stache Media, a consultancy that focuses on web strategy and interactive marketing.

  • Owes everything to the Open Source community, especially WordPress.

Coaches and Mentors

Kathryn Grohusky

Kathryn Grohusky is a sought out advisor for creative personal innovation and community transformation projects and is the founder and Executive Director of CoachGro LLC. She specializes in coaching athletes and entrepreneurial leaders ways to bust through internal blocks to “get unstuck already!” and reach their potential in sports and business because she loves exploring the achievement of audacious athletic and business goals. The concept ‘Work smarter, not harder’ has served her well during her careers in coaching, management, outdoor industry sales, and guiding world-wide mountaineering expeditions. Her experience includes the business start-up phase of community not-for-profits and creative board development. She is a co-founder and past Board President of Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, at, a nationally recognized business that supports volunteerism on the US Forest Service public lands that make up 75% of Summit County, Colorado. She currently serves international clients as their business and “inner workout” coach and focuses the rest of her time on growing her own start up - CoachGro LLC. Ms Grohusky has an Advanced Coaching Credential (ACC) from the International Coaching Federation (ICF), her Master’s in Natural Resource Recreation from Colorado State University, and a degree in Sociology from The Colorado College. She is currently training as a Mental Toughness Coach with Mental Toughness Inc, of Toronto, Canada. Ms. Grohusky is a lifelong endurance athlete with over 35 years of backcountry expedition and racing experience including telemark skiing, mountain bike racing, and guiding international mountaineering expeditions. When not serving her clients, she can be found adventuring and exploring the Colorado high country with her family on her skis, bikes, hiking boots, or running shoes.

Kristy Lee Gogolen

Kristy Lee Gogolen founded KL Creative Design, a web and mobile technology group, in 2005. With a love of all things binary and a keen eye for design, she makes websites pretty-inside and out. In 2011, she founded LadyBits Dev, the mobile division of KL Creative Design, and released an iPhone altimeter app, Explore More. As a small business owner herself, she has a passion to see entrepreneurs succeed and grow. She can be tempted away from her computer by great snow, mountain wildflowers and shiny motorcycles.

Tom Fellner
CEO, Imagine That, Inc.

As CEO and team leader for Imagine That, Inc., Tom brings his expertise in creative design, project management, brand strategy and user experience to Imagine That clients. Tom specializes in creating exceptional online experiences for small businesses to large corporations. He loves hiking with his wife, Wendy, backpacking, biking and skiing. Passionate about entrepreneurship, Tom loves reading anything related to business growth, theories on website user experience and brand strategy.

Mike Connolly

Professional achievements – MBA from Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth.  Career started in commercial and investment banking (over $1.5 billion raised in debt and equity offerings), transitioned to become successful business and corporate development company executive for over 20 years (over 50 transactions completed in M&A, corporate partnerships, distribution agreements, technology licensing deals, etc.).  Moved to Summit county eight years ago and initially worked in financial and retirement planning with New York Life. Three years ago became Executive Director of the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, a Summit county nonprofit organization that promotes stewardship of our local forest.

Doug Clayton

Doug built his business on childhood curiosity, learning to design his own video games on a Tandy computer when he was nine. Self-taught in the programming of the ‘80s, he also studied computers at Kent State University after dropping out of pre-med.
He started his career working in the defense industry translating punch cards into Milstrip and creating large databases and putting that data on the new technology platform called the “Web.” He left the DoD to pursue philanthropic work at the World Bank and Council on Foundations and also taught classes in .NET / ASP classes.
Today, Doug runs a web development consultancy serving a diverse range of businesses, non-profits, charitable organizations, fashion in LA and NY, film, and other trade organizations. Doug is also the co-founder of 8150 High Altitude Entrepreneurs, a hub for innovation in the Vail Valley. He is involved with several startups where he serves as CTO and Chief Architect. He is organizing the inaugural Vail Start-up Weekend in April 2016.
As Director of Vail Centre’s Entrepreneurs BaseCamp facility, Doug plays a lead role in orienting and connecting entrepreneurs and small business owners in the community and building a culture of innovation and support.

Michael Hopkins

Michael Hopkins is a graduate of University of Denver with a Bachelors degree from Daniels School of Business in Business Information Technology. He is currently a resident of Frisco and works as the lead developer for Allstate Banners of New York City.Michael has participated in multiple Startup Weekend events including Santa Barbara, San Louis Obispo, Aspen, Denver and Chicago on several winning teams. These efforts building new concepts have offered a wide knowledge bank into the startup world. Michael is a parallel entrepreneur with significant skills in web development, business development, as well as project and team management.

Ronald Carlson

Ronald Carlson is a principal and co-founder of Carlson and Carlson, Attorneys at Law, PC.  Mr. Carlson focuses his practice on business and real estate including related specialties of corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, limited liability family partnerships, real estate development, homeowners associations, mechanics liens and construction defect litigation. Mr. Carlson has served on various Boards and community organizations. He is a Board of Directors, Emeritus of the Continental Divide Land Trust and Habitat for Humanity. He is a former Planning Commission member and former Prosecutor for the Town of Frisco, as well as current Prosecutor for the City of Leadville. He currently serves as the part-time Frisco Municipal Court Judge, the part-time Silverthorne and Dillon Municipal Judge and the part-time Blackhawk Municipal Judge. He is licensed to practice in Colorado, Arizona and Michigan. Mr. Carlson is author of a number of publications and articles including “Rule 16, A Survey”; “New Duties of Colorado Election Law” both in the Colorado Lawyer and co-author of “Marital Torts” in Colorado and “Trial Procedure: Motions Before Trial” in Michigan. Mr. Carlson is an avid skier and snowboarder, enjoys hiking, camping, golf and fly-fishing.

Amy Kemp
Founder, ELEVATE coSPACE & Mountaintop Media

Amy loves fresh ideas as much as she loves fresh powder. With experience as a journalist, social media strategist and digital marketer, she started her own storytelling agency, Mountaintop Media, and was one of the three women founders to open ELEVATE coSPACE, the first coworking space in Frisco, Colorado.

Aaron Landau
Founder & Managing Director, EVO3 Workspace

Aaron moved to Keystone, CO three years ago from St. Louis, MO after a successful career in the medical device industry. This included time with Mallinckrodt, Cardinal Health, and most recently, in the electrophysiology division of Boston Scientific. Specializing in business development, sales, and contract negotiation, Aaron made the move to the mountains for that work-life balance so many of us want.  After starting two companies, it became clear that Summit County had the right ingredients and a remarkable amount of excitement for a thriving collaborative space.  Hence, EVO3 Workspace was born which will bridge the gap between the tech startup community in the Front Range and Summit County.   Aaron, a self-described “knowledge hound,” is passionate about being part of the community as a volunteer. He is involved with the Breckenridge Outdoor Educational Center as an adaptive ski instructor and a member of Mountain Mentor’s of Summit County.
