Emily Hickey

Emily Hickey is an online growth expert with a specialized skill set in launching new products and achieving very aggressive growth trajectories (revenues and/or user growth). Hickey is currently in the process of starting a new company, while providing ecommerce and growth consulting to clients including People Magazine, NYC’s The High Line, and Crown & Caliber. Previously, she served as COO of Lolly Wolly Doodle, where she helped raise $23 million in venture funding and transform the company into a channel-diversified multimillion dollar a year business with over 200 employees and 950,000 Facebook Fans (LWD was featured on the cover of Inc Magazine in June 2014 as the ‘most talked about’ company in ecommerce as well as being recognized that year as #318 on the Inc 500). Prior to that, she served in executive or co-founding roles at various venture-funded technology companies in NYC including Hashable, the CNN-declared ‘winner’ of South by Southwest in 2011, PhotoShelter, the market leader in website templates and workflow software for professional photographers, and, where Hickey was a key part of the small executive team that developed HotJobs into the #2 player in market with a $100 million annual run rate, successful IPO on the NASDAQ, and eventual sale to Yahoo! for $450 million. Hickey is a graduate of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business (M.S., Sloan Fellow) and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (B.A., English & Religion). She recently moved to Telluride, CO with her husband Sean and two children, Tee & Jaye, after almost 20 years in New York City and San Francisco.

Jesse Johnson
Founder of Telluride Venture Accelerator

Jesse Johnson is the Director of the TVA. He co-founded and was CEO of Q Collection, a leading sustainable design company (now a part of Twill Textiles). He has been involved as a mentor and investor in several startup businesses and served on the board of two companies sold to a Fortune 50 company. He serves on the board of 1% For The Planet, Yale’s Center for Business and the Environment, Harvard’s Center for Health and the Global Environment and several others. Jesse has an MBA and MES (Environmental Science) from Yale and a BA from Princeton.

Steve Togni
General Manager, Mountain Lodge

Steve is responsible for leading, operating and managing every aspect of The Mountain Lodge at Telluride.  Some of Steve’s responsibilities include overseeing the Sales/Reservations process, directing Front Desk and Housekeeping operations, guiding Human Resources and managing all property maintenance and capital improvement projects.  Steve also creates annual budgets for both the Rental Program and HOA of The Mountain Lodge at Telluride an independently managed hotel & high-end condominium.  Steve also helped Wyndham International and The Peaks Resort receive AAA’s “4-Diamond Award” rating in 2004 for the first time, Condé Nast Traveler’s “Top 10 Resorts at a Ski Destination” in 2003 and Travel & Leisure’s “500 Greatest Hotels” in January 2004. During his time in Telluride, Steve has also served on the TMVOA Board (Town of Mountain Village Owners Association) and presently sits on both the CHLA Board (The Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association) as well as CFL (Colorado Flights Alliance) as well as serving as a board member and long-time active member of the Telluride Lodging Association.  Steve has lived and worked in Telluride since 2002 and although he is a passionate outdoor enthusiast and avid skier who enjoys playing the guitar during his leisure, the “off-seasons” are all about traveling the globe in search of surf. 

Coaches and Mentors

Tristan Rubadeau
CTO @ BubbleIQ, Inc

Energy, enthusiasm and technical geekery are what Tristan strives to bring to Startup Weekend.  He will be on hand to assist teams with scoping their idea to an executable size for the weekend, Lean Startup methodologies, Business Model Canvas workshops, User Personas, specking out a Minimal Viable Product, handing out high fives, and anything else technical that will help the teams reach their goals.

Len Metheny

Energetic entrepreneur with broad-based leadership experience in marketing, business development, financial management and operations planning. Proven ability to analyze key business drivers and develop strategies to drive profit. Experience with raising venture capital, recruiting and building a high performance teams and acquisition-merger activity.

Jim Berkowitz

Jim is a startup growth strategist and technology coach. Over the years Jim has assisted hundreds of organizations with getting, keeping and growing customers. Now his focus is on helping startups.

With experience in customer development, designing and implementing growth, digital marketing and CRM technology strategies, Jim and his team at LaunchHawk Marketing offer a comprehensive range of consulting services designed specifically to help startups successfully scale their businesses. Active member of the Telluride community, Jim currently serves on the Board of KOTO­fm Community Radio. Jim also volunteers his time generously to many other local non­profits, is a mentor for Telluride Venture Accelerators and is "DJ Jimmy Jazz" on KOTO­fm in Telluride.

Thea Chase
Director, Telluride Venture Accelerator

Thea Chase is the Director of the Telluride Venture Accelerator (TVA) in Telluride, CO.  TVA is a full member of the Global Accelerator Network (GAN) and is the first accelerator focused on outdoor recreation, tourism, natural products, health, energy, water, and education. Ms. Chase has twenty years diverse experience in the field of entrepreneurship and economic development as an educator, program developer, and consultant supporting diverse communities and initiatives in developing and implementing innovative and collaborative models that enhance entrepreneurial eco-systems world-wide. Throughout her career Ms. Chase has supported the launch and growth of numerous companies and entrepreneurs and developed programs to perpetuate new firm creation and success most notably the Cal Poly Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship and the SLOHotHouse in San Luis Obispo, CA and the Business Incubator Center in Grand Junction, CO.

Natural nutrition specialist, CEO, executive chef, salesperson, marketing director and delivery gal.

Alley Rubadeau

Alley Rubadeau owns and operates a development and design company Chair 9 Marketing based out of Telluride. Between crushing code, analyzing marketing campaigns, and running a social media startup she enjoys running far, skiing long, and lifting heavy. You might find her nose deep in her computer, on the trails with her husband, or chasing down main street after her energetic 5 year old.
