Marc Nager
Startuper, skier, mountaineer, and CEO of UP Global - [ Startup Weekend, Startup Week, Startup Digest, Education Entrepreneurs, Startup Next ]

Marc Nager is the President and CCO of Techstars Startup Programs. In early 2009, he found the opportunity to acquire Startup Weekend, LLC and to transform it into a non-profit to help others pursue their passions, solve real problems, and impact the world around them. Years later, UP Global has built a network of more than 150,000 alumni, thousands of volunteer organizers and hundreds of trained facilitators spread across more than 500 cities in 130 countries, which later merged with Techstars. Marc balances his mission to make entrepreneurship a universally accessible career path with an active lifestyle. Marc holds a degree in International Business from Chapman University in Southern California. An ambitious go-getter, he is dedicated to expanding his experience and understanding of startup ecosystems around the world. His efforts focus on increasing the levels and quality of support available for passionate entrepreneurs and communities. Entrepreneurship is something that can be taught and learned, and he’s on a mission to make it possible for anyone.

Len Metheny

Energetic entrepreneur with broad-based leadership experience in marketing, business development, financial management and operations planning. Proven ability to analyze key business drivers and develop strategies to drive profit. Experience with raising venture capital, recruiting and building a high performance teams and acquisition-merger activity.


Emily Hickey

Emily Hickey is an online growth expert with a specialized skill set in launching new products and achieving very aggressive growth trajectories (revenues and/or user growth). Hickey is currently in the process of starting a new company, while providing ecommerce and growth consulting to clients including People Magazine, NYC’s The High Line, and Crown & Caliber. Previously, she served as COO of Lolly Wolly Doodle, where she helped raise $23 million in venture funding and transform the company into a channel-diversified multimillion dollar a year business with over 200 employees and 950,000 Facebook Fans (LWD was featured on the cover of Inc Magazine in June 2014 as the ‘most talked about’ company in ecommerce as well as being recognized that year as #318 on the Inc 500). Prior to that, she served in executive or co-founding roles at various venture-funded technology companies in NYC including Hashable, the CNN-declared ‘winner’ of South by Southwest in 2011, PhotoShelter, the market leader in website templates and workflow software for professional photographers, and HotJobs.com, where Hickey was a key part of the small executive team that developed HotJobs into the #2 player in market with a $100 million annual run rate, successful IPO on the NASDAQ, and eventual sale to Yahoo! for $450 million. Hickey is a graduate of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business (M.S., Sloan Fellow) and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (B.A., English & Religion). She recently moved to Telluride, CO with her husband Sean and two children, Tee & Jaye, after almost 20 years in New York City and San Francisco.


Jasper Welch
Management Consultant

Educated at the University of Colorado [B.S, 1975], Jasper completed training and earned certifications in business planning, personnel assessments, quality management and local governance. As a small business owner and executive, Mr. Welch has worked in the printing, office supply, marketing, business incubation, coworking and management consulting fields.   He has previously served as an independent director on the Stoneage, Inc (water blast tools); Fast Track Communications (telecommunications) corporate Boards.  Jasper presently serves on the Board of WSI, Inc (oil & gas field services) and Data West Corporation (utility billing systems).  For 25 years, Jasper operated his own management-consulting firm, Four Corners Management Systemswww.jasperwelch.org   As an executive consultant, Mr. Welch has provided management advisory services to businesses, individuals, government agencies and non-profit organizations.   In the non-profit sector, Jasper has served as a local Chamber executive and he has served with non-profit Boards in the Durango, CO and Farmington, NM areas.  He is a twice-elected Council member on the Durango, CO City Council (1991-1999) including two one-year terms as Mayor. In February 2011, Mr. Welch & Nancy Wharton cofounded DurangoSpace http://durangospace.com , a full service coworking facility located in downtown Durango.  Jasper is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence with the SW Colorado Accelerator Program for Entrepreneurs http://goscape.org From 1999 to 2011, Jasper worked at San Juan College as the director of the Enterprise Center (a business incubator located in Farmington, NM)  www.sjc-enterprisecenter.com.  During 2013 and 2014, Jasper served as the transitional President & CEO of the National Business Incubation Association (NBIA www.nbia.org) following a nationwide executive search.  NBIA has 900 member organizations, 2,200 member professionals that are incubating 12,000 startup and emerging companies. He is a recognized subject matter expert on start-ups, coworking and business incubation.  Jasper has presented at NBIA, CABI, SBDC and IEDC conferences on various expert panels.


Jesse Johnson
Founder of Telluride Venture Accelerator

Jesse Johnson is the Director of the TVA. He co-founded and was CEO of Q Collection, a leading sustainable design company (now a part of Twill Textiles). He has been involved as a mentor and investor in several startup businesses and served on the board of two companies sold to a Fortune 50 company. He serves on the board of 1% For The Planet, Yale’s Center for Business and the Environment, Harvard’s Center for Health and the Global Environment and several others. Jesse has an MBA and MES (Environmental Science) from Yale and a BA from Princeton.


Coaches and Mentors


Jim Berkowitz

Jim is a startup growth strategist and technology coach. Over the years Jim has assisted hundreds of organizations with getting, keeping and growing customers. Now his focus is on helping startups.

With experience in customer development, designing and implementing growth, digital marketing and CRM technology strategies, Jim and his team at LaunchHawk Marketing offer a comprehensive range of consulting services designed specifically to help startups successfully scale their businesses. Active member of the Telluride community, Jim currently serves on the Board of KOTO­fm Community Radio. Jim also volunteers his time generously to many other local non­profits, is a mentor for Telluride Venture Accelerators and is "DJ Jimmy Jazz" on KOTO­fm in Telluride.

Ashley Nager
Program Manager, Telluride Venture Accelerator

Ashley Nager is TVA’s Program Manager. Prior to TVA, she was the HR Director for UP Global (the company behind Startup Weekend, Startup Digest and Startup NEXT). She was one of the earliest team members and has done everything back office to help the team grow to 5 international offices located around the world. In her five years at UP Global, they reached over 200,000 entrepreneurs, hosted more than 3,000 events across 130 countries and helped thousands of companies get their start including getting into top tier accelerators around the world. Ashley brings vast experience in startup community creation as well as a very interconnected entrepreneurial network from around the world. Her home town is Seattle, Washington where she attended the University of Washington. She will be living in Telluride with her 2-year-old Australian Cattle Dog, Dax, as well as her husband Marc, Founder and CEO of UP Global.


Tristan Rubadeau
Chief Technology Officer, Voltaire Inc.

Energy, enthusiasm and technical geekery are what Tristan strives to bring to Startup Weekend.  He will be on hand to assist teams with scoping their idea to an executable size for the weekend, Lean Startup methodologies, Business Model Canvas workshops, User Personas, specking out a Minimal Viable Product, handing out high fives, and anything else technical that will help the teams reach their goals. Following the 2013 Telluride Startup Weekend, Tristan took his idea and prototype that was build over the three days to be accepted to SCAPE (Durango's Accelerator), raise 60k in Seed funding, and quit his corporate job.  He's back to help others follow their passion and remind everyone that energy and laughter are gasoline that drive startups to success.
