Kathy White
Executive in Residence and Mattel Board Member

Dr. Kathy White Loyd is a respected business leader, entrepreneur, philanthropist and educator widely recognized for her contributions in the fields of information technology, health care and economic development .   She serves on the Board of Directors for Mattel, Inc. and has been on the board since 2001.   Loyd is a limited partner on the Board of Advisors for Southern Capitol Ventures, Inc. and Bull City Venture Partners (both located in Raleigh NC).  The funds invest in technology start-ups.    Currently, White Loyd is an executive-in-residence at the Bryan School of Business at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and is an associate professor of information technology where she started her career and spent 10 years before leaving for business.    During her business career, she served as a corporate officer and chief information officer for several Fortune 500 companies.  After leaving Cardinal Health (CAH: $90 billion healthcare and distribution company) as Executive Vice President E-commerce and Chief Information Officer, she devoted her energies to entrepreneurship and philanthropy.   In 2004, she founded Rural Sourcing, Inc. providing low cost technology services using employees in non-urban regions of the United States.  Clarkson Consulting acquired the company in 2009 retaining the brand name and continuing to provide technology training and to provide employment to under-served populations in America.   She has spoken widely in the United States and internationally on board governance, information technology, leadership and economic development issues and has been honored by numerous publications and organizations for her successes and contributions. The recognition includes being named one of the Top American Businesswomen by Forbes; Outstanding Woman in Technology and one of the Top 10 Chief Information Officers in the United States, Distinguished Executive by Lake Forest Chicago Graduate School of Management; and Distinguished Alumni by Arkansas State University.   Dr. White Loyd holds an undergraduate degree and M.B.A  from Arkansas State University and a doctorate from the University of Memphis.


Burke Ramsay

Burke Ramsay is currently an investor in and advisor to a number of small businesses, including Microdea Software, Klone Labs, and Eyos Expeditions. Prior, he was Managing Director of Elastic Therapy, Inc and an SVP at DJO Global. He has worked in private equity investing with Hellman & Friedman and Bain Capital and spent time working in strategy consulting with the Boston Consulting Group. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and an A.B. in Economics from Princeton University.

August 2014 – Present (9 months)The Piedmont Angel Network (PAN) is a committed capital angel fund that focuses on investment opportunities in early stage companies that present high growth opportunities. PAN has invested in 23 companies since 2002 with a primary focus on the life science, technology, software, and advanced materials fields. While the Fund has a preference to invest in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina, PAN has made investments across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.


John Woolsey

John Woolsey is a retired Vice President of Marketing and Merchandising for Anderson Hardwood Floors, a subsidiary of Shaw Industries, a Berkshire Hathaway Company. In this position he managed an in-house creative team that served as an advertising agency for the company.  Today, John serves as the Executive Vice President and an entrepreneurial counselor of SCORE, the nation’s largest, network of free, expert business mentors. For entrepreneurs who are considering starting a business, SCORE counselors can provide the practical action plan, education and tools you need to open your doors and establish a customer base. Already own a business? Our volunteer mentors can help identify ways to increase profit, improve employee and customer satisfaction, and achieve work/ life balance. When not at work, John found his joy in Summer Stock Theater, serving both on stage as a character actor and off stage as lighting and sound director, set designer and playwright.


Wilson Lester
Executive Director

Wilson Lester is a partnership and program management professional.  His career is focused on advancing economic opportunity through strategic partnerships and education.  His role as Executive Director of the Greensboro Community Development Fund works diligently to create relationships with businesses in urban and rural communities through micro lending in support of operational expansion and new business development for underrepresented entrepreneurs.   Wilson is pursuing his Masters in Management, Strategy and Leadership at Michigan State University, and earned his bachelors in Business Administration from Greensboro College.


Thom Farrell

Mr. Thom Farrell is an accomplished and resourceful business leader with an extensive background in emerging and mature businesses, in both public and private equity sponsored companies.   Over 30 years experience in evaluating opportunities, defining strategies, and leading global teams through execution.  Mr. Farrell has held executive positions with multiple Fortune 500 companies, including Union Carbide Corporation, United Technologies and SPX Corporation.  Mr. Farrell most recently was CEO of Engineered Controls International, LLC, a private equity sponsored business based in Elon, NC.  After helping the business achieve its growth objectives, he led the business through a successful sale process.  Mr. Farrell is now a mentor of SCORE - Greensboro and looks forward to helping small businesses achieve their potential.


Geoff Atack

Geoff is the Director of Business Development at ImPACT Maintenance and Reliability Solutions, a training company located in Greensboro, NC.
