A Playground for Raleigh's Young Entrepreneurs

This is the Triangle’s first-ever Startup Weekend Schools Edition hosted by Exploris Elementary School.  This Startup Weekend is specially designed for 4th-5th grade problem solvers and entrepreneurs.  The format is slightly different from other Startup Weekends, with exercises and experiences that inspire young minds to learn how to move their ideas forward toward action while collaborating with their peers.

Today's youth are full of creative ideas for how to make lives and the world a better place. This will be a place for them to take those ideas and move them towards reality. This event will also help build confidence in creating and sharing ideas for those that tend to keep them inward. They will jump in with hands-on activities that help them identify a challenge to solve, learn to understand the end customer or user, work effectively with others, communicate their ideas, and in the end, build something they are proud of.

Over the two days, teams of students will listen to each other's ideas, form teams, be coached by educators and industry pros, design a product, code/create a prototype, and pitch their companies in front of a panel of judges and mentors.

Here’s how it works Just like regular Startup Weekends, participants form teams. We will rotate the teams through different activity centers, each focusing on a different facet of ideation and execution. Each activity will emphasize a different aspect of creativity, idea formation, product building, and refining the story into a short presentation. There will be varying ways in which the children will be able to play and explore as well as challenge and express themselves.

Participants will need to be available for the entire program, beginning Tuesday morning. All activities will take place at Exploris Elementary School with the exception of final pitches at HQ Raleigh.

This is a closed event for Exploris students.
