Your idea in 54 hours

Do you have an idea you'd like to pursue or a problem you'd like to solve but don't know where to start or who to start with?

Techstars Startup Weekend is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

What do you need to bring?

Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.

Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely! Important: You cannot have worked previously on your idea.

Techstars Startup Weekend is a full weekend long experience. Your ticket includes:
  • 7 full (and delicious) meals over the course of the weekend
  • Benefits and discounts from our global partners
  • One-on-one time with amazing mentors
  • A new network of developers, designers, and entrepreneurs eager, like you, to change the world.
  • All the internet and coffee you can consume.

Watch the video below to see what you can expect, and if you’re feeling inspired click on the “Buy Ticket” button now!

Speakers

Shawn Parker
Founder

Shawn started Fuel Medical Group in 2009.  Since it's inception, Fuel has established itself as one of the top "100 Fastest Growing Private Companies" in Oregon and SW Washington and was recently honored with the prestigious Lighthouse Award for being in that group five years in a row.  Fuel currently employs over 90 staff members with revenues of approximately $20 Million.  Prior to establishing Fuel Medical, Shawn was Vice President of Operations for Audigy Group, LLC where he facilitated operations for over 400 locations representing $150 Million in revenue. Shawn got his start as the Sales Manager for Sonus USA, Inc. where he managed the Inside Sales Force and assisted in growing the Sonus Network from just 76 members to over 1,500 locations across the country. He went on to become the Senior Director of Operations at Amplifon, Inc. During this time Shawn was responsible for the day-to-day operations of three corporate divisions and managed a combined budget of $60 Million in revenue from 200 locations and 350+ employees. Later as Director of Operations for Sonic Innovations, Inc. Shawn developed the US Hearing Life Division from conception to reality and oversaw 40 retail locations with over 100 employees and $20 Million in revenue.  Shawn's most recent venture is the opening of Grains of Wrath Brewing in Camas, WA.  The brand new brewery will provide over 20 craft beers, a full kitchen, and is projected to open in March of 2018.

John Laine
Founder

The reality is, that I love entrepreneurs, and I'll jump at any opportunity to hang out with them.

I love the risk takers, the hustlers (Hat tip to Gary V), the work-a-holics, & the dreamers. I love the idea that you can start with a few hundred bucks in your pocket, a whole lot of energy (enthusiasm), a really good idea... and poof! ... You can have a viable business overnight :) I'm very proud to say, that the two most profitable businesses I've ever built, were both started with less than $1,000 bucks start-up cash :)

Event Judges

Stan Hanks
Chief Technologist

Entrepreneur. Pivot Artist. Evangelist. Webscale Tech Maven.

That expression "the best way to predict the future is to invent it"? That's the story of my career.

I'm an experienced technologist and executive, fluent in legal and financial arcana. A "big picture" guy who thinks strategically and long term, but is perfectly willing to go to the mat over obscure technical details or arcane financial and tax consequences of an immediate action.

I've been doing "webscale" since we only had about 300 hosts on the ARPAnet, and I've built out global networks, including data centers, three times. I have been a user of distributed systems since the 80s, where I had to invent the technology that made it possible to treat networks of CPUs a single system. I live in the cloud, and have, since way before people called it "the cloud".

Danielle Alexander
Incubator Manager at Jaguar Land Rover

As a C level leader in the tech space he has led his teams to numerous awards including top honors at 1776 World Challenge Cup (People Choice, Most Promising Global Tech Start Up. DC 2016).
